CARE INSTRUCTIONS:

• ☀️ Light: Maximum brightness and direct sunlight! For the Desert Rose to bloom and develop a strong, thick, unique trunk, it vitally needs plenty of sunlight. A south- or southwest-facing windowsill is absolutely the only correct choice. In a dark location, the plant will quickly become leggy and die.

• 💧 Watering: Infrequent and extremely careful. As a desert plant, it requires a “water thoroughly and allow to dry out completely” approach. During the active growing season (summer), allow the soil to dry out almost completely between waterings. In winter (during dormancy), watering should be reduced to an absolute minimum – water it only when the thick trunk starts to become slightly softer. It absolutely cannot tolerate its roots sitting in stagnant water!

• 🌡️ Temperature/Humidity: It loves heat and literally adores ordinary, dry room air. This plant must absolutely not be misted! In summer, it can safely be taken outdoors into the fresh air on a very sunny terrace. In winter, protect it from the cold (the temperature must not fall below 12–15°C) and open windows.

• 🐾 Pets: Not pet-friendly. The plant is highly toxic to both pets and humans! Its sap (latex) contains poisonous substances that can cause severe heart rhythm disturbances and poisoning if chewed, and irritation upon contact with the skin. Keep it completely out of reach of pets and small children!

🏠 MOST SUITABLE LOCATION:

• The brightest and sunniest south-facing windowsill in the home (an absolute prerequisite for this plant’s survival and flowering).

• A bright and hot conservatory (where it can enjoy conditions close to those of the desert).

⚠️ Note: Plants are living organisms, so every specimen and the shape of its thickened trunk (caudex) are completely unique and will differ. It is important to know nature’s secret: it is completely normal for the Desert Rose to shed some or even all of its leaves in autumn and winter when it enters dormancy! Do not panic or start watering the plant more heavily (this will kill it). In spring, as light levels and temperatures increase, it will produce new leaves and flower buds. Always wear gloves when repotting or pruning the plant to prevent its toxic sap from coming into contact with your skin!
