Alocasia 'Frydek Tattoo' (Alocasia micholitziana 'Frydek Tattoo')
This extremely rare, exclusive, and visually stunning Alocasia 'Frydek Tattoo' is a true gem in the home of any houseplant collector! The classic 'Frydek' variety is famous worldwide for its dark green, distinctly velvety arrow-shaped leaves with bright white, contrasting veins. However, the 'Tattoo' version is even more special and rare – it stands out with unique, delicate, and bold patterns or color transitions (variegation) that resemble a nature-made tattoo. Currently, it is a small young plant, but with proper and loving care, it will grow into an impressive, luxury-class houseplant and the main star of your green oasis. It is an elegant, very photogenic, but humidity-loving houseplant that will add a magical, exotic, and deep natural accent to any interior. It is an exclusive, somewhat capricious, but extremely valuable gift for experienced plant lovers and rarity hunters!
CARE INSTRUCTIONS:
-
☀️ Light: Bright but diffused light. For this plant’s velvety leaves and 'Tattoo' pattern to develop and contrast, a large amount of light is vitally necessary. However, strictly protect it from direct, scorching sunlight, which will instantly burn and fade its delicate leaves. An east or west-facing windowsill is an absolutely great choice.
-
💧 Watering: Regular but extremely careful! Here lies the main secret of young plants: the small seedlings are very sensitive both to drying out and overwatering. Keep the soil evenly lightly moist, but allow the top layer to dry slightly between watering sessions. It absolutely cannot tolerate roots sitting in standing water in the saucer, which will very quickly cause root rot.
-
🌡️ Temperature/Humidity: Loves warmth and literally adores very high air humidity! Alocasia’s velvety leaves are especially susceptible to spider mites if the indoor air is too dry. A humidifier, plant terrarium, or placement on a wet pebble tray is almost a must for this plant’s survival and beauty. Strictly protect it from cold drafts!
-
🐾 Pets: Absolutely not pet-friendly. Like all alocasias, this one is toxic to cats and dogs. Its sap contains calcium oxalate crystals, which cause severe irritation of the mouth and throat, drooling, and digestive issues if chewed. Keep it completely out of reach of your pets!
🏠 MOST SUITABLE LOCATION:
-
Bright plant terrarium (an absolutely ideal and protected environment for such a size rarity, where it can enjoy constant and high air humidity).
-
Bright and warm spot near a direct air humidifier.
SPECIFICATIONS:
-
Height: 10-15 cm (young plant)
-
Pot diameter: 10.5 cm
⚠️ Note and reality check about young plants: Plants are living organisms, so each specimen and its unique pattern ('Tattoo') intensity may vary. It is extremely important to keep in mind that you are receiving a young plant! Small, rare plants must be handled much more gently than mature, large specimens. It is important to know nature’s secrets: alocasias, especially at an early age, very often sacrifice their old leaves for the new ones! It is completely normal that as a new, stunning leaf grows, the bottom leaf slowly turns yellow and withers – simply and carefully cut it off at the base. When repotting this plant, be sure to use an extremely airy and loose aroid soil mix (generously mixed with perlite, fine orchid bark, and sphagnum moss) so its roots can breathe freely, protecting them from the risk of rot!
