This extremely unusual, rare, and textured Alocasia 'Maharani', also known among plant lovers as the "Grey Dragon," is a true botanical gem! It belongs to the "jewel alocasias" group, meaning that even when grown, it will remain relatively compact and won’t become a giant shrub. It stands out with its exceptionally thick, stiff, and velvety matte leaves, boasting a pronounced texture and a smoky grey-green color. Currently, it is a small young plant, but over time it will grow into a luxury-class houseplant and the pride of your green oasis. CARE INSTRUCTIONS:

• ☀️ Light: Bright but diffused light. For this plant’s smoky leaves and texture to fully develop, good lighting is vital. However, strictly protect it from direct, scorching sunlight, which will instantly burn and fade its delicate leaves. An east or west-facing windowsill is an absolutely excellent choice.

• 💧 Watering: Regular but extremely careful! Here lies the main secret of young plants and jewel alocasias: their thick leaves mean the plant can retain water a bit better than other alocasias, so it is VERY sensitive to overwatering. Keep the soil evenly lightly moist, but always allow the surface to dry out between watering. It absolutely cannot tolerate root soaking in standing water in the saucer, which will quickly cause root rot.

• 🌡️ Temperature/Humidity: Loves warmth and literally adores very high air humidity! A humidifier, plant terrarium, or placement on a wet pebble tray is almost essential for this plant’s survival and beauty. Strictly protect it from cold drafts and sudden temperature changes!

• 🐾 Pets: Strictly not pet-friendly. Like all alocasias, this one is toxic to cats and dogs. Its sap contains calcium oxalate crystals, which cause severe irritation of the mouth and throat, drooling, and digestive issues if chewed. Keep it completely out of reach of your pets!

🏠 MOST SUITABLE LOCATION:

• Bright plant terrarium (an absolutely ideal and protected environment for such a rare plant size, where it can enjoy constant and high humidity).

• Bright and warm spot near a humidifier.

⚠️ Note and reality check about young plants: Plants are living organisms, so each specimen and its leaf’s greyish color may vary slightly. It is extremely important to remember that you are receiving a "baby" (in an 8 cm pot)! Small, rare plants require much gentler and more patient care than mature, large specimens. It’s important to know nature’s secrets: alocasias, especially when young, often sacrifice their old leaves for the new ones! It is completely normal for the bottom leaf to slowly yellow and dry out as a new, beautiful leaf grows – don’t panic, just carefully cut it off at the base. When the seedling grows and the 8 cm pot becomes too small, repotting must be done using an extremely airy and loose aroid soil mix (generously mixed with perlite, fine orchid bark, pumice, and sphagnum moss) so its roots can breathe freely and be protected from rot risk!
