Net-like Alocasia 'Zebrina Reticulata' (Alocasia zebrina 'Reticulata')
This is an absolute top-tier rarity, a botanical masterpiece, and one of the most coveted treasures in the entire world of alocasias – Alocasia 'Zebrina Reticulata'! While the common Alocasia zebrina is famous for its striped stems, this exclusive 'Reticulata' variation offers a double visual delight. In addition to the firm, smart stems adorned with a striking, bold, and graphic tiger or zebra pattern, its leaves feature a completely unique natural wonder. The slender, arrow-shaped leaves are covered with a breathtaking, fine, and distinctly textured dark green net-like venation (reticulation) on a lighter lime green background, creating an effect of surreal and sophisticated natural mosaic. This plant looks so exotic and modern, as if its design was created by an artist! Currently, it is a small young plant, but it is an air-purifying and distinctly architectural indoor plant that will add a refined and tropical luxury accent to any interior. It is a prestigious, joy-enhancing, and absolutely unforgettable gift for the most passionate rarity hunters and design connoisseurs!
CARE INSTRUCTIONS:
-
☀️ Light: Bright but MANDATORILY diffused light. Here lies the main secret of this plant’s stunning beauty: for the alocasia to maintain its expressive, bright leaf venation and strong stem pattern, it needs a large amount of light (it will especially enjoy gentle morning or late evening sun). However, strictly protect it from direct, scorching midday sun rays, which will instantly burn its delicate, arrow-shaped leaves. An east or west-facing windowsill is a perfect choice.
-
💧 Watering: Moderate and very thoughtful. Like all slender-stemmed alocasias, it does not tolerate overly frequent watering, as its long stems store moisture very well themselves. Allow the top layer and the middle layer of the soil (the upper third of the pot) to dry out completely between waterings! The plant absolutely cannot tolerate root soaking in standing water in the saucer, which will quickly cause sensitive root and tuber rot. Reduce watering significantly in winter.
-
🌡️ Temperature/Humidity: A warmth-loving tropical resident (ideally +18°C to +25°C), which will be extremely happy with increased air humidity (above 55-60%). In dry indoor air, the tips of its narrow leaves may start to dry out and brown, so it will appreciate a spot near a humidifier, inside a closed plant cabinet, or on a pebble tray with water. In winter, strictly protect it from cold drafts and icy windowsills!
-
🐾 Pets: Keep away from pets. Like all alocasias, 'Zebrina Reticulata' contains calcium oxalate crystals, which are toxic to cats and dogs if chewed. Place the plant out of their reach.
🏠 MOST SUITABLE LOCATION:
-
A bright and warm windowsill or shelf in morning/evening sun (ideal environment for maintaining the unique venation and convenient placement due to its compact young plant size).
-
Modern living rooms, home offices, or plant display cabinets, where this plant’s graphic silhouette and exotic, striped stems will serve as a striking design object.
SPECIFICATIONS:
-
Height: 15-20 cm (compact, strong young plant)
-
Pot diameter: 10.5 cm
⚠️ Note and reality check about alocasias: Plants are living organisms, so each specimen and the intensity of its net-like pattern or stem stripe density may vary slightly (new leaves initially unfold lighter and their pattern becomes more expressive as the leaf matures). It is extremely important to keep in mind that you are receiving a young plant! Small plants require gentler and more patient care than mature plants. It is important to know nature’s secrets: alocasias grow cyclically and, to develop a new, stronger, and larger leaf, they often sacrifice and shed their oldest, smallest leaf (which naturally turns yellow and withers) – there is no need to worry about this, it is a completely normal process. Do not repot this plant immediately into a too large pot – alocasias prefer their roots to be relatively snug. When you repot it in the future, be sure to use an extremely airy, loose aroid soil mix (generously mixed with perlite, orchid bark, and coconut chips) so the roots can breathe freely and excess water drains instantly through the pot.
