CARE INSTRUCTIONS:

• ☀️ Light: Moderate to medium bright, but MANDATORILY diffused light. This is the main secret behind the plant’s pink lines: in the wild, Calatheas grow in the understory of rainforests, in the shade of large trees, so they categorically and strictly cannot tolerate direct midday sun, which will instantly burn their unique, precious leaves, making them pale and fading the bright pink stripes. It prefers pleasant, filtered lighting or a spot in moderate partial shade near an east or west window.

• 💧 Watering: Regular, moderate, and very precise. Calatheas do not tolerate overwatering or complete drying out. Water the plant when the top layer of soil (the upper 1-2 cm of the pot) has just started to dry out between waterings! The soil should always feel pleasantly, lightly moist like a squeezed sponge. Since the plant is in a large 14 cm pot, it retains moisture longer, so the plant categorically cannot tolerate root soaking in standing water in a saucer, which will instantly cause root rot. Water only with soft, filtered, or settled lukewarm water.

• 🌡️ Temperature/Humidity: A warmth-loving tropical queen (ideally +18°C to +24°C) that, due to its royal origins, will be endlessly grateful for increased air humidity (above 55-60%). To keep its large leaves perfectly smooth and prevent brown edges, place it near a humidifier, group it with other plants, or set it on a tray with moist pebbles. In winter, strictly and categorically protect it from dry radiator heat and cold drafts!

Since this is already a nicely matured, strong plant in a generous 14 cm pot, it is much more resilient and stable than small seedlings. Do not repot this plant immediately into a much larger pot – Calatheas prefer a compact environment, and excess, unused soil can hold moisture for a long time. When you repot it in the future, be sure to use a light, airy, slightly acidic, and loose indoor plant soil mix (richly supplemented with perlite and a bit of peat) to ensure the roots get oxygen and excess water drains instantly through the pot.
