Clivia 'Yellow' or Yellow Clivia (Clivia miniata)

This extremely elegant and aristocratic Clivia 'Yellow' is a true classic among houseplants, and this yellow-flowered version is much rarer and more exclusive than the traditional orange clivia! It stands out with its firm, leathery, dark green leaves that grow in a symmetrical fan shape, but its true pride is the mighty flower stalk, topped in spring by a stunning cluster of bright yellow flowers. It is a hardy, slow-growing, and decades-long living houseplant that will add a majestic, sunny, and very refined natural accent to any interior. CARE INSTRUCTIONS:

• ☀️ Light: Bright but diffused light. For the clivia to bloom magnificently and maintain a firm shape, it needs good light, but it must be strictly protected from direct, scorching midday sun rays, which will quickly burn its dark green leaves. It thrives best on an east or west-facing windowsill. It also tolerates shadier spots well, but it may not bloom there.

• 💧 Watering: Moderate in summer, but very careful in winter. During the active growing period, allow the top layer of soil to dry slightly between waterings. It is very sensitive to overwatering and root soaking in standing water! During the winter dormancy period, watering must be drastically reduced (almost stopped completely, allowing the soil to dry out).

• 🌡️ Temperature/Humidity: It thrives at standard room temperature and tolerates normal, dry indoor air well. It does not need misting. However, the most important golden rule for flowering: in winter it vitally needs a cool dormancy period (ideally around 10–14°C) combined with dryness. Without this cool stress period, the plant will not form flower buds the following year!

• 🐾 Pets: Not pet-friendly. The plant is toxic to cats and dogs. All parts of clivias (especially their thick, fleshy roots) contain alkaloids that cause salivation, vomiting, and severe digestive tract disturbances if chewed. Keep it out of reach of pets!

🏠 MOST SUITABLE ROOM:

• Bright living room or study (as a classic, very stately, and symmetrical design element).

• Cool and bright stairwell or winter veranda (an ideal place to provide the vitally important cool dormancy period).

• Bright bedroom (where its symmetrical growth and yellow flowers will create a warm, spring-like atmosphere).

⚠️ Note: Plants are living organisms, so each specimen may differ slightly from the description. Important to know: clivias are famous for not tolerating frequent disturbance and repotting! They like their roots to be cramped in the pot – they will bloom much better if the pot seems too small. Repot only when the thick roots literally start pushing the plant out of the pot (every 3–5 years). To maintain its aristocratic appearance and help the plant breathe, regularly wipe dust off the broad leaves with a dry or slightly damp soft cloth. When the flower stalk appears, resume watering a little more frequently!
