Cyanotis

Royal Furry Cyanotis (Cyanotis)

Get ready to bring absolute botanical softness, an extraordinarily pleasant texture, and the "furriest" trailing plant in the houseplant world into your home or office—the stunning Cyanotis (Cyanotis / commonly known as furry tradescantia or cat's ears)! A member of the Commelinaceae family (and a close relative of the well-known tradescantias), this exclusive African masterpiece of nature stands out for something truly unique. The plant's greatest pride, its magnet, and its unmistakable calling card is its foliage: the thick, fleshy, pointed leaves are densely covered with soft, silvery hairs (fuzz), making them incredibly soft to the touch and protecting the plant from the sun. What's more, in good light, the undersides of the leaves and the stems often turn a beautiful rosy-purple shade, and during flowering it delights with delicate, unusual violet-blue flowers! It is currently a well-grown, sturdy, particularly dense and very bushy 15 cm plant (getting ready to form a long, cascading trail) in a generous 12 cm pot. This is the most prestigious, tasteful, and "lovable" gift for a home blessing, open-shelf owners, and anyone looking for a visually unusual yet exceptionally reliable and patient wonder of nature!

CARE INSTRUCTIONS:

• ☀️ Light: Bright but MUST be indirect light (or gentle morning/evening sun). Here's the secret to this plant's dense growth and fuzzy texture: to keep cyanotis from becoming leggy with long, unattractive stems and preserve its beautiful silvery fuzz and purple tones, it needs plenty of light. An east- or west-facing windowsill is ideal.

• 💧 Watering: Moderate and very careful! Cyanotis leaves and stems are partially succulent and store water. Water the plant ONLY when the top half of the soil has completely dried out. The most important golden rule: ABSOLUTELY avoid pouring water directly onto the fuzzy leaves, as trapped moisture between the hairs will quickly cause the leaves and stems to rot! It's best to water it from below (place the pot in a tray of water for 20 minutes, then drain off any excess).

• 🌡️ Temperature/Humidity: It thrives comfortably in typical room temperatures (+18°C to +24°C). This plant is perfectly adapted to dry indoor air. Important: do not mist it under any circumstances, as wet leaves in an enclosed space are a sure path to fungal diseases.

• 🐾 Pets: Pet-friendly / Non-toxic. Cyanotis is safe and non-toxic in your home around curious cats and dogs.

🏠 BEST ROOM:

• High bookshelves, macramé hangers, and sunny desks, where this fuzzy cascade can trail freely, delighting the eye with its texture.

• Boho, "urban jungle," or eclectic interiors, where unusual natural textures and silvery-green/purple tones create a strikingly cozy atmosphere.

SPECIFICATIONS:

• Height: 15 cm

• Pot diameter: 12 cm

⚠️ A note and a dose of reality about cyanotis: Plants are living organisms, and this is one of the most rewarding and fastest-growing trailing plants! Important botanical fact: Just like its cousin the tradescantia, cyanotis may naturally shed its older leaves near the base of the pot over time, leaving the stems a little bare. Don't worry! You're this plant's hairstylist—if the vines get too long or the base becomes bare, feel free to grab some scissors and trim the ends. Stick the cut, fuzzy stems straight back into the same pot in moist soil (or put them in a glass of water), and within just a few days to a week, they'll put out new roots, making your plant even fuller and more vigorous! When repotting, use a very airy, well-draining houseplant mix with perlite.
