Royal Antarctic Tree Fern (Dicksonia antarctica)
Get ready to welcome the most grandiose, impressive, and breathtaking relic of the prehistoric world into your room or sheltered garden oasis – the legendary Antarctic tree fern! This monumental plant originates from the ancient, moist forests of Australia and Tasmania and is among the most highly valued and spectacular tree ferns worldwide. Dicksonia antarctica is a true botanical wonder that literally takes you on a journey through time – these plants thrived on Earth even before the era of dinosaurs. The plant’s greatest pride and hallmark is its royal, gigantic, and vividly green crown of leaves: massive, finely divided, and elegant fern fronds (fronds) majestically spread from the center of the plant, forming a striking tropical rainforest canopy. When mature, this fern develops a strong, textured, and fibrous trunk, making it an unbeatable architectural design object. It is an exceptionally air-purifying and humidifying indoor/outdoor plant (outdoors during summer months) that will add an elite, exotic, and legendary character to any interior or garden. Currently, it is a beautifully matured, strong, and distinctly rare 45 cm plant in a compact 12 cm pot. It is the most prestigious, boldest, and guaranteed most impressive gift for garden designers and those seeking plants of truly epic scale!
CARE INSTRUCTIONS:
-
☀️ Light: Partial shade or moderate, diffused light. Here lies the main secret of this plant’s tropical greenery: in the wild, tree ferns grow in the shade of large forests, so they absolutely and strictly cannot tolerate direct, scorching midday sun, which will instantly burn and dry out their delicate, elegant leaves. It prefers pleasant, filtered lighting, a north/east-facing windowsill, or partial shade deeper inside the room (and full shade/partial shade if you move it outdoors to the garden or terrace in summer).
-
💧 Watering: Abundant, regular, and consistent – this plant does not forgive drying out! The soil in the pot must always be pleasantly and evenly moist like a squeezed sponge. However, the plant absolutely cannot tolerate root soaking in standing water in the saucer, which will instantly cause root rot. Water regularly as soon as the top layer of soil just starts to lose moisture. Important natural secret: when the plant begins to develop its trunk in the future, water by pouring directly onto the top of the trunk (the center of the crown), as the trunk consists of aerial roots that need moisture.
-
🌡️ Temperature/Humidity: A tropical queen that loves coolness and moderate warmth (ideally +15°C to +22°C). Since this is an Antarctic species, it is relatively hardy, but indoors it will be extremely grateful for increased air humidity (above 60%). To keep its elegant leaves from turning brown and brittle, place it near a humidifier or regularly mist with soft water. In winter, strictly protect it from dry radiator air and icy drafts!
-

📦 IMPORTANT SHIPPING INFORMATION: Since this tree fern has naturally long, distinctly flexible, and royal leaves, they will be folded during shipping and packaging so the plant fits perfectly into the transport box and is maximally protected from mechanical damage. Upon receiving the plant, unpack it carefully, place it in its designated spot, and allow the leaves to naturally and independently regain their grand, spread-out form within a few days.
⚠️ Note and dose of reality: Plants are living organisms, so each specimen and its exact leaf spread may vary slightly, creating a unique natural silhouette. Tree ferns grow slowly and patiently, initially focusing their energy on forming their magnificent crown of leaves. When you repot it into a larger pot in the future, be sure to use fertile, humus-rich, slightly acidic, and very airy soil mix (generously mixed with peat and perlite) to ensure excellent moisture balance and allow the fern’s roots to breathe freely.
📦 Pick it up promptly! When the package has been delivered, collect it the same day. Do not leave the package in the parcel locker overnight! Cold and heat can damage the plants and predatory mites.
