Variegated Dischidia "Million Hearts" (Dischidia ruscifolia 'Variegata')

This is one of the most romantic, charming, and endlessly beloved houseplants among plant collectors worldwide – the variegated dischidia, which has earned the touching and famous name "Million Hearts" (Million Hearts)! It is closely related to hoyas and stands out with a unique, distinctly delicate texture. Its stems are densely and tightly covered in two rows with hundreds of tiny, firm, and distinctly fleshy leaves, each perfectly shaped like a stylized heart. This 'Variegata' version is a special luxury-class rarity – each small heart is edged with a flawless, bright white or cream border, creating a light, elegant, and visually airy contrast with the green leaf center. Under the right conditions, it tends to bloom generously with very small, white star-shaped flowers hidden among the leaf bases. Currently, it is a small young plant (10-15 cm) in a small 7 cm pot, but it is an exceptionally patient, air-purifying vine / trailing plant that will add a gentle, modern, and very tasteful natural accent to any interior. It is an ideal and endlessly lovely gift for holidays, busy people, and anyone who wants to bring a true "cascade of little hearts" into their home!

CARE INSTRUCTIONS:

  • ☀️ Light: Bright but MANDATORILY diffused light. Here lies the main secret of this plant’s vivid colors: since the white edges of the leaves lack chlorophyll, the plant requires a large amount of light (it will especially enjoy the gentle morning or late evening sun rays) to maintain the contrasting variegation and prevent the stems from stretching long and bare. However, strictly protect it from direct, scorching midday sun rays, which will sharply burn its miniature hearts.

  • 💧 Watering: Rare and very careful! As it is a true epiphyte and its leaves are thick and fleshy, the plant stores water reserves in them excellently. Water only when the soil in the pot has completely dried out to the bottom! Since the young plant is in a small 7 cm pot, it will dry out relatively quickly, but the plant absolutely cannot tolerate root soaking in standing water, which will instantly cause delicate root rot. If in doubt – wait a few more days.

  • 🌡️ Temperature/Humidity: A warmth-loving tropical resident (ideally +18°C to +25°C), which, thanks to its thick leaves, adapts relatively well to normal, dry indoor air and does not require constant misting. Of course, it will appreciate increased air humidity, which promotes much faster and denser development of new little hearts. In winter, strictly protect it from cold drafts!

  • 🐾 Pets: Friendly. Dischidia "Million Hearts" is non-toxic and completely safe in your home with curious cats and dogs.

🏠 MOST SUITABLE LOCATION:

  • A bright and warm windowsill or shelf in morning/evening sun (ideal environment and convenient placement due to its compact young plant size).

  • A high shelf, cabinet edge, or small hanging pot, allowing its delicate, cream-white heart strings to elegantly cascade down and create a romantic interior accent.

SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Height: 10-15 cm (compact baby seedling / young plant)

  • Pot diameter: 7 cm (very small)

⚠️ Note and reality check: Plants are living organisms, so each specimen and the exact width of its white edges on the leaves may vary slightly. It is extremely important to keep in mind that you are receiving a small young plant (in a 7 cm pot)! Small seedlings require gentler and more patient care than mature plants. Dischidia grows at a moderate, unhurried pace. Do not repot this small seedling immediately into a large pot – it prefers a tight and compact environment for its roots. When you repot it in the future, be sure to use an extremely airy, porous, and loose epiphyte/orchid soil mix (generously mixed with perlite and fine orchid bark) so the roots can breathe freely and excess moisture drains immediately through the pot.
