Royal Dark Gem Rubber Tree 'Abidjan' (Ficus elastica 'Abidjan')
Get ready to bring deep, aristocratic drama, mysterious luxury, and the most powerful silhouette in the world of houseplants into your home or office – the stunning Rubber Tree 'Abidjan'! This exclusive and highly prized African-inspired variety is a true masterpiece of nature, distinguished by its unusual, dark elegance. The plant’s greatest pride, magnet, and unique calling card is its breathtaking, thick foliage: from the strong, straight trunk rise large, firm, and distinctly waxy leaves in a rich, smoky dark green to almost black tone. This dramatic darkness is royally complemented by the contrast of the leaf undersides and central veins, which flow in soft burgundy and burgundy-red accents, while new leaves emerge from a fiery red protective sheath. In addition to its elite-class aesthetics, the 'Abidjan' ficus is one of the world’s strongest air-purifying champions, actively neutralizing household toxins and generously enriching the space with oxygen. It is currently beautifully matured, strong, distinctly dense, and stable at 30 cm tall in a well-sized 12 cm pot. It is the most prestigious, tasteful, and unforgettable gift for home blessings, modern offices, and anyone seeking the highest style in their interior!
CARE INSTRUCTIONS:
-
☀️ Light: Moderate to bright, but MANDATORILY diffused light. This is the key secret to the plant’s deep, dark tone: the 'Abidjan' ficus needs pleasant, filtered lighting to maintain its famous, almost black leaf color and the brightness of its burgundy veins (it will especially appreciate gentle morning or late evening sun). However, thanks to its dark foliage, this variety adapts flawlessly and steadily to a room’s side shade, making it an exceptionally versatile interior element. Strictly protect it from direct, scorching midday sun rays, which can burn its magnificent leaves. An east or west-facing location is ideal.
-
💧 Watering: Moderate, regular, and thoughtful. Ficus plants like consistent moisture but absolutely do not tolerate root soaking in standing water. Water the plant generously, but only when the top layer of soil (the upper third of the pot) is completely dry between waterings! Since the plant is in a stable 12 cm pot, it retains moisture well, so never allow water to accumulate in the saucer or decorative pot, as this can quickly cause root rot and leaf drop. Reduce watering slightly in winter. Use lukewarm, soft water.
-
🌡️ Temperature/Humidity: A warmth-loving tropical resident (ideally +18°C to +25°C). This ficus adapts well to normal room light but will greatly appreciate regular wiping of its leaves with a damp, soft cloth (this not only ensures excellent shine but also helps the plant breathe freely). In winter, strictly protect it from cold, icy drafts during window ventilation and dry air currents from radiators!
-
🐾 Pets: Keep away from pets. Like all ficus varieties, this one exudes white latex sap at injury sites, which can cause digestive or skin irritation in cats and dogs if leaves are chewed. Place this magnificent treasure out of reach of your four-legged friends.

⚠️ Note and reality check about ficus plants: Plants are living organisms, so each specimen and its exact leaf arrangement, thickness, and distribution of burgundy tones is a completely unique masterpiece of nature – no two plants are identical. Since this is already a nicely matured plant in a stable 12 cm pot, it is strong and will not require immediate repotting for some time. When you do repot it in the future, be sure to use fertile but light, peaty, and well-draining houseplant soil mix with a generous addition of perlite to ensure oxygen for the roots and prevent excess water accumulation.
