Hoya or Wax Flower 'aff. Vitellina' (Hoya aff. vitellina)

(from Latin affinis) means that this plant is a very close relative of the famous Hoya vitellina. It stands out with its extremely attractive, massive, leathery, and smooth leaves, often adorned with elegant veining. But the greatest charm of this plant reveals itself in sunlight – when receiving good light, the edges of its large leaves tend to color in stunning dark, reddish, or bronze tones (the so-called sun-stress effect)! Currently, it is a small seedling (young plant), but over time it will grow into an impressive, air-purifying vine that will add a luxury-class, tropical, and exotic natural accent to any interior. CARE INSTRUCTIONS:

• ☀️ Light: Bright but diffused light. Here lies the main secret of this plant’s colorful leaf edges: for the Hoya to develop this beautiful, dark tint along the leaf edges and to be able to bloom in the future, it needs a large amount of light. However, strictly protect it from direct, scorching midday sun rays, which will instantly bleach and burn its beautiful leaves. An east or west-facing windowsill is an absolutely excellent choice.

• 💧 Watering: Rare and very careful. As an epiphyte, its tough and massive leaves work perfectly as water reservoirs. Allow the top layer of soil and the middle layer between watering sessions to dry out thoroughly! It absolutely cannot tolerate root soaking in standing water in the saucer, which will quickly cause root rot. The best indicator: if the leaves are very firm and stiff, the plant does not need watering; if they start to become slightly wrinkled or softer – it’s time to drink.

• 🌡️ Temperature/Humidity: Thrives well at standard room temperature and adapts easily to normal, dry indoor air. However, being a large-leaf tropical plant, it will be extremely happy with increased air humidity, which promotes much faster and healthier growth. In winter, strictly protect it from icy drafts!

• 🐾 Pets: Friendly. This gorgeous and exclusive wax flower is completely non-toxic and absolutely safe in your home with curious cats and dogs.

🏠 MOST SUITABLE LOCATION:

• A bright and warm windowsill with morning or evening sun (an absolute prerequisite for the beautiful leaf edge tint).

• A bright spot where the plant has a stable support (a trellis or metal ring) for its heavy leaves to climb in the future.

⚠️ Note and reality check about wax flowers: Plants are living organisms, so each specimen and the intensity of its leaf tint or veining may vary. It is extremely important to keep in mind that you are receiving a young plant! Small seedlings must be handled more gently than mature plants. Important to know nature’s secrets: Hoyas naturally grow as vines and very often produce long, "bare" shoots (stems) that initially have no leaves. Never cut these off! This is a normal growth process – when the stem finds support or senses enough light, new leaves will gradually start to form on it. If the plant blooms in the future, after flowering never cut off old flower stalks, because the Hoya will bloom next season from those same stems! When repotting this plant, ALWAYS use a very airy aroid or epiphyte soil mix (generously mixed with large orchid bark pieces, coconut chips, and perlite) so its roots can breathe freely.
