Hoya or Wax Flower 'Stardust' (Hoya carnosa 'Stardust')

This extremely gorgeous, elegant, and visually stunning Hoya or Wax Flower 'Stardust' (translation – "Star Dust") is a true treasure in the home of any houseplant lover! It is a special and highly sought-after variation of the classic Hoya carnosa that fully lives up to its cosmic name. Its firm, fleshy, and shiny leaves are so generously, densely, and unevenly covered with creamy white and silvery spots that they literally look sprinkled with sparkling star dust. Like other wax flowers, it is an exceptionally patient, air-purifying, and long-lasting vine that will eventually form an impressive, cascading cascade or happily climb up a provided support. It is an excellent, space-saving, and completely safe houseplant that will add a romantic, airy, and very refined natural accent to any interior. It is an ideal, joy-inducing gift for both beginners and experienced collectors who appreciate silvery shimmer and sometimes forget to water their plants!

CARE INSTRUCTIONS:

  • ☀️ Light: Bright but diffused light. Here lies the main secret of this plant’s "cosmic" pattern: the white and silvery parts of the leaves contain no chlorophyll, so the plant vitally needs a large amount of light (it will especially enjoy morning or late evening sun) to maintain its variegation. However, strictly protect it from direct, scorching midday sun rays, which will instantly burn its light and delicate leaves. An east or west-facing windowsill is an absolutely perfect choice.

  • 💧 Watering: Rare and very careful. As an epiphyte, its tough and succulent leaves work perfectly as water reservoirs. Allow the top layer and the middle layer of the soil to dry out thoroughly between waterings! It absolutely cannot tolerate root soaking in standing water in the saucer, which will quickly cause root rot. The best indicator: if the leaves are firm and stiff, the plant does not need watering; if they become a bit more flexible – it’s time to drink.

  • 🌡️ Temperature/Humidity: Thrives well at standard room temperature and, thanks to its thick leaves, easily adapts to normal, dry indoor air. Since it is a tropical plant, it will of course appreciate increased humidity, which will promote slightly faster growth and encourage abundant flowering in the future. In winter, strictly protect it from cold drafts!

  • 🐾 Pets: Friendly. This gorgeous, starry wax flower is completely non-toxic and absolutely safe in your home with curious cats and dogs.

🏠 MOST SUITABLE LOCATION:

  • A bright and warm windowsill with morning or evening sun (ideal environment to maintain color brightness and variegation).

  • A high shelf or a place with a support (arch/ladder), allowing the vine to freely stretch and twist its tendrils, creating a stunning design accent.

SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Height: 20 cm (length of tendrils at the time of receipt)

  • Pot diameter: 10.5 cm

⚠️ Note and reality check about wax flowers: Plants are living organisms, so each specimen and its unique density of "star dust" spots may vary (some leaves will have more variegation, others less). It is important to know nature’s secrets: hoyas naturally grow as vines and very often produce long, "bare" shoots (tendrils) that initially have no leaves. Never cut these off! This is a completely normal natural rhythm – when the long tendril finds support or senses enough light, new variegated leaves will gradually start to form on it. If the plant blooms in the future (with charming, porcelain-like, sweetly scented flower clusters), after flowering never cut off the old flower stalks, because the hoya will bloom next season from those very same stems! When repotting this plant, ALWAYS use a very airy aroid or epiphyte soil mix (generously mixed with orchid bark, coconut chips, and perlite) so its roots can breathe freely.
