Hoya or Wax Plant 'Clemensiorum Dark Leaf' (Hoya clemensiorum 'Dark Leaf')

This extremely rare, mystical, and visually dramatic Hoya or Wax Plant 'Clemensiorum Dark Leaf' is one of the most striking and desirable treasures in tropical rarity collections! This special 'Dark Leaf' variety is the most exclusive form of the famous Borneo species – it stands out with distinctly dark, almost black-green leaves covered by an indescribably deep, lighter textured veining. Its leaves are incredibly tough, stiff, and literally reminiscent of cardboard or thick metal plates, while their matte and rough surface creates a perfect exotic reptile or dinosaur skin effect. When given good lighting, this "dark beauty" tends to develop a wonderful bronze or reddish-brown sun-stress glow. Currently, it is a small young plant, but over time it will grow into an impressive, air-purifying, and long-lasting vine that will add top-class luxury and prehistoric jungle atmosphere to any interior. It is an exclusive and completely safe gift for experienced plant lovers and hunters of the darkest forms of nature!

CARE INSTRUCTIONS:

  • ☀️ Light: Bright but diffused light. This is where the dramatic pattern and color secret of this plant lies: for the hoya to maintain its expressive dark background and to develop the beautiful reddish-brown leaf glow, it vitally needs a large amount of light. However, strictly protect it from direct, scorching midday sun rays that will instantly bleach and burn its precious leaves. An east or west-facing windowsill is an absolutely great choice.

  • 💧 Watering: Rare and very careful. As an epiphyte, its extremely tough and thick leaves serve as excellent water reservoirs. Allow the top layer and the middle layer of the soil to dry out thoroughly between waterings! It absolutely cannot tolerate root soaking in standing water in the saucer, which will quickly cause sensitive root rot. The best indicator: if the leaves are as hard as stone, the plant does not need watering; if they become a bit more flexible – it’s time to drink.

  • 🌡️ Temperature/Humidity: Loves warmth and, being a Borneo rainforest native, it will be extremely happy with higher air humidity. Although its thick leaves can tolerate normal indoor air, increased humidity promotes much faster new leaf development and protects them from deformation. Strictly protect from cold drafts!

  • 🐾 Pets: Friendly. This gorgeous and exclusive wax plant is completely non-toxic and absolutely safe in your home with curious cats and dogs.

🏠 MOST SUITABLE LOCATION:

  • A bright and warm windowsill with morning or evening sun next to a humidifier (ideal environment for maintaining leaf sun-stress and unique texture).

  • A bright spot where the plant has a stable support (ladder or hoops) for its heavy, cardboard-like leaves to climb and twine upwards in the future.

SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Height: 10-15 cm (young plant / string length at the time of receipt)

  • Pot diameter: 10.5 cm

⚠️ Note and reality check about wax plants: Plants are living organisms, so each specimen and the depth of its leaf texture or darkness of the background may vary slightly. It is extremely important to keep in mind that you are receiving a young plant! Small plants must be handled more gently than mature ones. Important to know nature’s secrets: hoyas naturally grow as vines and regularly produce long, "bare" shoots (strings) that initially have no leaves. Never cut these off! This is a completely normal natural rhythm – when the string finds support or senses enough light, new unique "reptile skin" leaves will gradually start to form on it. If the plant blooms in the future, after flowering never cut off old flower stalks, because the hoya will bloom next season right from those same stems! When repotting this plant, ALWAYS use a very airy aroid or epiphyte soil mix (generously mixed with large orchid bark pieces, coconut chips, and perlite) so its roots can breathe freely.
