Thick-leaved Hoya or Wax Flower (Hoya crassipetiolata)
Get ready to bring true tropical rainforest elegance and botanical charm into your home – Hoya 'Crassipetiolata'! This unique and highly valued wax flower among houseplant collectors stands out with its expressive, strong, and sculptural character. Its greatest pride is its elongated, distinctly firm and thick leaves with a smooth, glossy surface. On the bright green background of the leaves, a darker, deeply textured net-like venation dramatically and clearly stands out, further adorned with fine, magically silver splashes (splash) that elegantly shimmer in the light. This plant looks so flawless and structured, as if its design was created by a modern art master! With proper and loving care, this Hoya will reward you in the future with charming, porcelain-like star-shaped flower clusters that emit a pleasant, sweet aroma. Currently, it is a small, compact, and very valuable 10-15 cm young plant in a small 9 cm pot. It is an air-purifying and incredibly long-living vine/hanging plant that will add a sophisticated, modern, and very tasteful natural accent to any interior. It is a perfect, prestigious gift for those looking for plants with a distinct geometric structure and lush green texture!
CARE INSTRUCTIONS:
-
☀️ Light: Bright but MANDATORILY diffused light. Here lies the main secret of this plant’s stunning pattern: for the Hoya to maintain its expressive, dark venation and magnificent silver splashes, it needs a lot of light (it will especially enjoy the gentle morning or late evening sun rays). However, strictly protect it from direct, scorching midday sun, which will instantly burn its unique leaves. An east or west-facing windowsill is a perfect choice.
-
💧 Watering: Rare, moderate, and very thoughtful! Since its leaves are thick and juicy, the plant stores water reserves in them perfectly. Water only when the soil in the pot has completely dried out to the bottom! As the plant is in a small 9 cm pot, it dries relatively quickly, but the plant absolutely cannot tolerate root soaking in standing water in the saucer, which will quickly cause sensitive root rot. If in doubt – better wait a few more days.
-
🌡️ Temperature/Humidity: A warmth-loving tropical resident (ideally +18°C to +25°C), which, thanks to its thick leaves, can relatively well adapt to normal, dry indoor air and does not require constant misting. Of course, it will appreciate increased humidity (above 50%), which helps new shoots and leaves develop faster and denser. In winter, strictly protect it from cold drafts!
-
🐾 Pets: Friendly. This exotic and beautiful wax flower is completely non-toxic and absolutely safe in your home with curious cats and dogs.
🏠 MOST SUITABLE LOCATION:
-
A bright and warm windowsill or shelf in morning/evening sun (ideal environment to maintain the unique pattern and easy placement due to its compact young plant size).
-
Modern living rooms, home offices, or plant cabinets, where this plant’s dark, textured leaves and vine nature will serve as a sophisticated interior design element.
SPECIFICATIONS:
-
Height: 10-15 cm (compact baby seedling / valuable young plant)
-
Pot diameter: 9 cm (small)
⚠️ Note and reality check about wax flowers: Plants are living organisms, so each specimen and the density of its silver areas or the exact brightness of the venation on the leaves may vary slightly. It is extremely important to keep in mind that you are receiving a young plant (in a 9 cm pot)! Such small seedlings should be handled more gently and patiently than mature plants at first. An important nature secret: Hoyas naturally grow as vines and sometimes produce long, "bare" shoots (strings) that initially have no leaves. Never cut these off! This is a completely normal natural process – when the long string feels support or enough light, new, firm leaves will gradually grow on it. If the plant blooms in the future, after flowering never cut off old flower stalks, because the Hoya will bloom next season from those same stems! When repotting this plant in the future, ALWAYS use an extremely airy, porous, and loose epiphyte/orchid soil mix (generously mixed with perlite, coconut chips, and coarse orchid bark) so the roots receive maximum oxygen.
