Hoya or Wax Flower 'Erythrina' (Hoya erythrina)
This extremely stunning, exotic, and visually dramatic Hoya or Wax Flower 'Erythrina' is a true treasure among tropical plant collectors! Its name comes from the Greek word erythros (red), which perfectly describes the plant’s most magical feature – when receiving excellent and strong light, its leaves undergo an impressive transformation, gaining a striking fiery red or bronze tan (sun-stress effect). This species stands out with long, thick, and firm leaves that have expressive, wavy edges and dark, textured veins resembling exotic reptile skin. Currently, it is a small young plant, but over time it will grow into a breathtaking, long-living, and air-purifying vine that will add a luxury-class, tropical, and very dynamic natural accent to any interior. It is an exclusive and completely safe gift for rarity hunters and anyone who wants to bring bright, fiery natural tones into their home!
CARE INSTRUCTIONS:
-
☀️ Light: Bright but diffused light. Here lies the main secret of this plant’s color and texture: to maintain its expressive veins and achieve the famous bright red leaf tan, it vitally needs a large amount of light (it will especially enjoy morning or late evening sun rays). However, strictly protect it from direct, scorching midday sun rays, which will quickly bleach and burn its beautiful leaves. An east or west-facing windowsill is an absolutely excellent choice.
-
💧 Watering: Rare and very careful. As an epiphyte, its hard and succulent leaves work perfectly as water reservoirs. Allow the top layer and the middle layer of the soil to dry out thoroughly between waterings! It absolutely cannot tolerate root soaking in standing water in the saucer, which will quickly cause root rot. The best indicator: if the leaves are hard and firm, the plant does not need watering; if they become a bit more flexible – it’s time to drink.
-
🌡️ Temperature/Humidity: Feels great at standard room temperature and, thanks to its thick leaves, adapts well to normal indoor light. However, being a Southeast Asian jungle native, it will be extremely happy with increased air humidity, which promotes much faster and healthier new leaf development. In winter, strictly protect it from cold drafts!
-
🐾 Pets: Friendly. This gorgeous, fiery wax flower is completely non-toxic and absolutely safe in your home with curious cats and dogs.
🏠 BEST LOCATION:
-
A bright and warm windowsill with morning or evening sun (an absolute prerequisite for maintaining the beautiful red tan and convenient placement due to its compact size).
-
A high shelf or a place with a stable support (arch/ladder), allowing the vine to elegantly climb upward in the future and create a stunning design element.

⚠️ Note and reality check about wax flowers: Plants are living organisms, so each specimen and its leaf waviness or tan intensity at the time of receipt may vary (leaves turn red only under good lighting, new leaves may initially be completely green). It is extremely important to keep in mind that you are receiving a young plant! Small plants require gentler and more patient care than mature plants. It is important to know nature’s secrets: hoyas naturally grow as vines and regularly produce long, "bare" shoots (strings) that initially have no leaves. Never cut these off! This is a normal process – when the string finds support or enough light, new, unique, and wavy leaves will gradually start to form on it. When repotting this plant, ALWAYS use a very airy aroid or epiphyte soil mix (generously mixed with orchid bark, coconut chips, and perlite) so its roots can breathe freely.
