Yellow Lacunosa Leaf or Wax Flower (Hoya lacunosa 'Amarillo')

Get ready to bring true sunlight, vibrancy, and botanical luxury into your home – Hoya 'Lacunosa Amarillo'! This extremely rare and passionately sought-after wax flower among houseplant collectors belongs to the absolute elite of Hoyas. The word "Amarillo" means yellow in Spanish, perfectly describing the plant’s surreal visual appearance: its small, diamond-shaped leaves boast an almost complete, distinctly bright and sunny yellow or cream coloration (neon variegation), complemented by fine green edges and a soft green accent in the center of the leaf. But the greatest fame of this Hoya lies in its flowering – lacunosa is world-famous for its soft, fuzzy flower clusters that emit a stunning, intense, and sweet fragrance reminiscent of expensive French perfumes or exotic tropical flowers at night. Currently, it is a very small, compact, and exceptionally valuable 10 cm young plant in a mini 6 cm pot. It is an air-purifying and very long-lasting vine / trailing plant that will add a sophisticated, modern, and joyful tropical accent to any interior. It is the most prestigious and coveted gift for wax flower collectors and those who want to see the rarest colors of nature in their homes!

CARE INSTRUCTIONS:

  • ☀️ Light: Bright but MANDATORILY diffused light. Here lies the main secret of this plant’s sunny beauty: since the yellow and cream areas of the leaves contain very little chlorophyll, the plant vitally needs a large amount of light (it will love the gentle morning or late evening sun rays) to maintain its bright coloration and prevent new shoots from growing out simply green. However, strictly protect it from direct, scorching midday sun rays, which will instantly and irreversibly burn its delicate yellow leaves. An east or west-facing windowsill is a perfect choice.

  • 💧 Watering: Rare, moderate, and very careful! Since lacunosa leaves are relatively juicy, the plant stores water reserves in them. Water only when the soil in the pot has completely dried out to the bottom! Because the small young plant is in a small 6 cm mini pot, it dries out relatively quickly, but the plant absolutely cannot tolerate root soaking in standing water, which will quickly cause sensitive root rot. If in doubt – better wait a few more days.

  • 🌡️ Temperature/Humidity: A warmth-loving tropical resident (ideally +18°C to +25°C), which, unlike green Hoyas, will greatly appreciate increased air humidity (above 55-60%) due to its unique coloration. Higher humidity will help the small, sunny leaves develop faster, fuller, and protect the light leaf edges from premature drying. It will be grateful for a spot near a humidifier or in a plant cabinet. In winter, strictly protect it from cold drafts!

  • 🐾 Pets: Friendly. This exclusive and gorgeous wax flower is completely non-toxic and absolutely safe in your home with curious cats and dogs.

🏠 MOST SUITABLE ROOM:

  • Bright and warm windowsills, shelves, or a spot in a plant cabinet with morning/evening sun (ideal environment for maintaining the flawless yellow tone and convenient placement due to its compact young plant size).

  • Modern, minimalist living rooms or home offices near a humidifier, where this neon-glowing plant will serve as the main interior design accent.

SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Height: 10 cm (compact baby seedling / exceptionally valuable and rare young plant)

  • Pot diameter: 6 cm (mini pot)

⚠️ Note and reality check about wax flowers: Plants are living organisms, so each specimen and the exact placement of its sunny yellow areas on the leaves may vary slightly (some leaves may develop almost completely yellow or cream, others greener, and this is a natural and fascinating characteristic of variegated plants). It is critically important to keep in mind that you are receiving a young plant (in a 6 cm pot)! Such small, exclusive seedlings must be handled much more gently, carefully, and patiently than mature plants. An important nature secret: Hoyas naturally grow as vines and sometimes produce long, bare shoots (strings) initially without leaves. Never cut these off! This is a completely normal natural process – when the long string finds support or enough light, new, gorgeous leaves and later fragrant flowers will gradually grow on it. When repotting this plant in the future, be sure to use an extremely airy, porous, and loose epiphyte soil mix (generously mixed with perlite and fine orchid bark) so the roots receive as much oxygen as possible.
