Laos lacunosa hoya or Waxflower (Hoya lacunosa sp. Laos)

Get ready to bring true tropical exoticism and botanical luxury into your collection – Laos lacunosa hoya! This unique and highly sought-after waxflower among houseplant collectors belongs to the absolute fragrance elite of the hoya world. It is an exclusive and rare Hoya lacunosa variety that comes from the mysterious and humid mountain rainforests of Laos. The plant completely enchants with its refined miniature structure – its small, diamond-shaped or asymmetrically elongated leaves boast a firm texture and a pleasant dark green base color, tastefully decorated with fine, silvery splashes (splash). But the greatest fame of this hoya lies in its amazing flowering – lacunosa hoyas are world-famous for their soft, perfectly round, and fluffy flower clusters that emit a stunning, intense, and distinctly sweet aroma reminiscent of precious tropical scents or night jasmine. Currently, it is a very small, compact, and exceptionally valuable 10 cm young plant in a mini 6 cm pot. It is an air-purifying and very long-lasting vine / trailing plant that will add a minimalist, modern, and very tasteful green accent to any interior. It is a perfect, prestigious, and unforgettable gift for passionate rarity hunters and those who want to bring the best natural aromas into their homes!

CARE INSTRUCTIONS:

  • ☀️ Light: Bright but MANDATORILY diffused light. Here lies the main secret to this plant’s compactness and flowering: for the hoya to maintain its dense form, vivid silver splashes, and bloom abundantly in the future, it needs a large amount of light (it will especially enjoy gentle morning or late evening sun rays). However, strictly protect it from direct, scorching midday sun rays that will instantly and irreversibly burn its delicate leaves. An east or west-facing windowsill is a perfect choice.

  • 💧 Watering: Rare, moderate, and very careful! As a typical tropical epiphyte with firm, succulent leaves, this plant stores water reserves perfectly in them. Water only when the soil in the pot is completely dry down to the bottom! Since the small young plant is in a small 6 cm mini pot, it will dry out relatively quickly, but the plant absolutely cannot tolerate root soaking in standing water, which will quickly cause sensitive root rot. If in doubt – better wait a few more days.

  • 🌡️ Temperature/Humidity: A warmth-loving tropical resident (ideally +18°C to +25°C), which, thanks to its thick leaves, adapts relatively well and patiently to normal, dry indoor air. Of course, it will appreciate moderate or increased humidity (above 50%), which will help the small leaves grow even denser and the new shoots develop faster. In winter, strictly protect it from cold drafts!

  • 🐾 Pets: Friendly. This exclusive and gorgeous waxflower is completely non-toxic and absolutely safe in your home with curious cats and dogs.

🏠 MOST SUITABLE ROOM:

  • Bright and warm windowsills, shelves, or a spot in a plant cabinet in morning/evening sun (ideal environment for maintaining a flawless, dense silhouette and easy placement due to its compact young plant size).

  • Modern living rooms, kitchens, or offices, where this plant’s delicate, trailing strings will serve as an elegant design element, and during flowering – as a natural and royal home fragrance.

SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Height: 10 cm (compact baby seedling / exceptionally valuable and rare young plant)

  • Pot diameter: 6 cm (mini pot)

⚠️ Note and reality check about waxflowers: Plants are living organisms, so each specimen and the exact density of its silvery splashes on the leaves or the length of the shoots may vary slightly. It is critically important to keep in mind that you are receiving a young plant (in a 6 cm pot)! Such small, exclusive seedlings must be handled much more gently, carefully, and patiently at first than mature plants – Laos lacunosa grows slowly at first, strengthening its root system in the mini pot. An important nature secret: hoyas naturally grow as vines and sometimes produce long, bare shoots (strings) that initially have no leaves. Never cut them off! This is a completely normal natural process – when the long string finds support or enough light, new, gorgeous leaves will gradually grow on it, followed later by fragrant flowers. When repotting this plant in the future, be sure to use an extremely airy, porous, and loose epiphyte soil mix (generously mixed with perlite and fine orchid bark) so the roots get maximum oxygen and excess water drains instantly through the pot.
