Hoya or Wax Flower 'Mitrata Splash' (Hoya mitrata 'Splash')

This extremely rare, intriguing, and botanically unique Hoya or Wax Flower 'Mitrata Splash' is a true treasure and a conversation piece in any houseplant collector's home! In the wild, it grows in the jungles of Malaysia and Thailand, where it is famous for its unusual symbiosis with ants (it forms dense, dome-shaped leaf nests). 'Mitrata' stands out with very distinctive, thick, bare, and slightly curved leaves that have a pronounced, textured surface. This 'Splash' version is especially desirable – its dark green leaves are generously and beautifully decorated with silvery white spots and "summer freckles" that shimmer beautifully in the light. Like other wax flowers, it is an air-purifying and long-lasting vine that will eventually form a unique, sculptural shape and happily climb up a provided support. Currently, it is a small seedling (young plant), but it is an exceptionally exotic houseplant that will add a luxury jungle accent to any interior. CARE INSTRUCTIONS:

• ☀️ Light: Bright but diffused light. Here lies the main secret of this plant’s silvery spotting: for the hoya to maintain its expressive splash pattern and to be able to bloom in the future (with charming, cream-colored flowers that have a bright red center), it vitally needs a lot of light. However, protect it strictly from direct, scorching midday sun rays, which will instantly burn its unique leaves. An east or west-facing windowsill is an excellent choice.

• 💧 Watering: Rare and very careful! As an epiphyte, its thick and firm leaves work perfectly as water reservoirs. Allow the top layer of soil and the middle layer between watering sessions to dry out thoroughly! It absolutely cannot tolerate root soaking in standing water in the saucer, which will quickly cause root rot. The best indicator: if the leaves are hard and firm, the plant does not need watering; if they become a bit more flexible – it’s time to drink.

• 🌡️ Temperature/Humidity: Thrives at standard room temperature and, thanks to its thick leaves, adapts well to normal indoor light. However, being a tropical rainforest native, it will be extremely happy with increased air humidity, which promotes much faster and healthier new leaf development. In winter, protect it strictly from cold drafts!

• 🐾 Pets: Pet-friendly. This beautiful, silvery wax flower is completely non-toxic and absolutely safe in your home with curious cats and dogs.

🏠 BEST LOCATION:

• A bright and warm windowsill with morning or evening sun (ideal environment for maintaining the silvery pattern and quick placement due to its compact size).

• A bright spot on a shelf or in a display cabinet, where the plant has a small support (ladder or hoop) to naturally climb around.

⚠️ Note and reality check about wax flowers: Plants are living organisms, so each specimen and the density of its silvery spotting (splash) may vary. It is extremely important to keep in mind that you are receiving a young plant! Small seedlings require gentler and more patient care. Important to know nature’s secrets: hoyas naturally grow as vines and regularly produce long, "bare" shoots (stems) that initially have no leaves. Never cut these off! This is a normal process – when the long stem finds support or senses enough light, new, unusual leaves will gradually start to form on it. If the plant blooms in the future, after flowering never cut off old flower stalks, because the hoya will bloom next season from those same stems! When repotting this plant, ALWAYS use a very airy aroid or epiphyte soil mix (generously mixed with orchid bark, coconut chips, and perlite) so its roots can breathe freely and do not retain excess moisture.
