Hoya or Wax Flower 'Pandurata' (Hoya pandurata)

This extremely charming, rare, and botanically fascinating Hoya or Wax Flower 'Pandurata' is a true treasure and a sophisticated design element in indoor plant collections! It got its unusual name in honor of the unique shape of its leaves (in Latin, panduratus means "violin-shaped") – its firm, smooth, and fleshy leaves are elegantly narrowed in the middle, literally resembling miniature violins or guitars. In addition to this unusual shape, the leaves have a beautiful, distinct, and lighter venation. Properly and patiently cared for, it will reward you in the future with stunning, waxy flower clusters, blooming with softly yellow or apricot star-shaped flowers with bright pink centers. Currently, it is a small young plant, but over time it will grow into a wonderful, air-purifying, and long-lasting vine that will add an airy, unusual, and very elegant natural accent to any interior. It is an excellent and completely safe gift for rarity hunters and anyone who appreciates unique leaf geometry and sometimes forgets to water their plants regularly!

CARE INSTRUCTIONS:

  • ☀️ Light: Bright but diffused light. For this Hoya to maintain its beautiful leaf shape, distinct venation, and to be able to bloom in the future, it needs a lot of light (it will especially enjoy morning or late evening sun rays). However, strictly protect it from direct, scorching midday sun rays, which will instantly burn its delicate "violin" leaves. An east or west-facing windowsill is an absolutely great choice.

  • 💧 Watering: Rare and very careful! As an epiphyte, its firm and thick leaves work perfectly as water reservoirs. Allow the top layer and the middle layer of the soil to dry out thoroughly between waterings! It absolutely cannot tolerate root rot caused by standing water in the saucer, which will quickly cause root decay. The best indicator: if the leaves are very hard and firm, the plant does not need watering; if they start to become a bit more flexible – it’s time to water.

  • 🌡️ Temperature/Humidity: Thrives well at standard room temperature and, thanks to its thick leaves, adapts relatively well to normal indoor air. However, being a tropical native, it will appreciate increased humidity, which promotes much faster and healthier new leaf development. In winter, strictly protect it from cold drafts!

  • 🐾 Pets: Pet-friendly. This gorgeous wax flower is completely non-toxic and absolutely safe to have in your home with curious cats and dogs.

🏠 BEST LOCATION:

  • A bright and warm windowsill with morning or evening sun (ideal environment and convenient placement due to its compact size).

  • A high shelf or a place with a compact support (arch/ladder), allowing the vine to climb airy upwards and create an elegant interior accent.

SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Height: 10 cm (young plant / length of stems at the time of receipt)

  • Pot diameter: 10.5 cm

⚠️ Note and reality check about wax flowers: Plants are living organisms, so each specimen and the expressiveness of its leaf "violin" shape may vary slightly. It is extremely important to keep in mind that you are receiving a young plant! Small plants should be handled more gently and patiently than mature plants. It is important to know nature’s secrets: Hoyas naturally grow as vines and regularly produce long, "bare" shoots (stems) that initially have no leaves. Never cut these off! This is a completely normal natural process – when the long stem finds support or senses enough light, new, unique leaves will gradually start to form on it. If the plant blooms in the future, after flowering never cut off old flower stalks, because the Hoya will bloom next season from those same stems! When repotting this plant, ALWAYS use a very airy aroid or epiphyte soil mix (generously mixed with orchid bark, coconut chips, and perlite) so its roots can breathe freely.
