Hoya or Wax Flower 'Soligamiana' (Hoya soligamiana)
This extremely stunning, elegant, and botanically fascinating Hoya or Wax Flower 'Soligamiana' is a true gem that has traveled directly from the exotic rainforests of the Philippines and, relatively recently (first described in 2010), has become a genuine sensory delight for indoor plant collectors! It stands out with its firm, fleshy, and large leaves that have a distinctly smooth texture and an elegantly narrow arrowhead shape. Its lush green surface is decorated with noticeable, slightly lighter, and very clean venation, creating a refined and architectural natural pattern. Currently, it is a small young plant, but as a true wax flower, it is an air-purifying and long-lasting vine that will gladly climb a provided support or form a spectacular cascade over time. It is a space-saving, patient, and completely safe houseplant that will add a luxury-class, tropical, and very modern natural accent to any interior. It is an ideal, joy-enhancing gift for rarity hunters and anyone who appreciates clean leaf geometry and tends to forget regular watering of their plants!
CARE INSTRUCTIONS:
-
☀️ Light: Bright but diffused light. For this Hoya to maintain its vivid leaf color, expressive venation, and to bloom in the future (with charming, reflexed creamy white or yellowish flowers), it needs a large amount of light (it will especially enjoy morning or late evening sun rays). However, strictly protect it from direct, scorching midday sun, which will quickly burn and fade its beautiful leaves. An east or west-facing windowsill is an excellent choice.
-
💧 Watering: Rare and very careful! As an epiphyte, its tough and thick leaves work perfectly as water reservoirs. Allow the top layer of soil and the middle layer between watering sessions to dry out thoroughly! It absolutely cannot tolerate root soaking in standing water in the saucer, which will quickly cause sensitive root rot. The best indicator: if the leaves are firm and stiff, the plant does not need watering; if they become a bit more flexible – it’s time to water.
-
🌡️ Temperature/Humidity: Thrives well at standard room temperature and, thanks to its thick leaves, adapts relatively well to normal indoor light. However, as a warmth-loving inhabitant of the Philippine jungles, it will be extremely happy with increased air humidity, which promotes much faster and healthier new leaf development. In winter, strictly protect it from cold drafts!
-
🐾 Pets: Pet-friendly. This stunning wax flower is completely non-toxic and absolutely safe in your home with curious cats and dogs.
🏠 MOST SUITABLE LOCATION:
-
A bright and warm windowsill with morning or evening sun (ideal environment and convenient placement on the windowsill).
-
A bright spot where the plant has a stable support (ladder or metal ring) for its large leaves to climb and twine upwards in the future.
SPECIFICATIONS:
-
Height: 10-15 cm (young plant / length of the stem at the time of receipt)
-
Pot diameter: 12 cm
⚠️ Note and reality check about Hoyas: Plants are living organisms, so each specimen and its leaf size or venation pattern may vary slightly. It is important to keep in mind that you are receiving a young plant in a 12 cm pot! Small plants should be handled more gently and patiently than mature plants. It is important to know nature’s secrets: Hoyas naturally grow as vines and regularly produce long, "bare" shoots (stems) that initially have no leaves. Never cut these off! This is a completely normal natural process – when the long stem finds support or senses enough light, new, unique leaves will gradually start to form on it. If the plant blooms in the future, after flowering never cut off old flower stalks, because the Hoya will bloom next season from those same stems! When repotting this plant, ALWAYS use a very airy aroid or epiphyte soil mix (generously mixed with orchid bark, coconut chips, and perlite) so its roots can breathe freely.
