Vangvienga Hoya or Wax Flower (Hoya vangviengiensis)
This is a refined, rare, and highly prized treasure among houseplant collectors – Hoya or Wax Flower 'Vangviengiensis'! This unique species is named after its distant place of origin – the picturesque and mystical Vangvienga region in Laos. It belongs to the aristocracy of Hoyas and stands out with its extremely elegant, elongated, firm, and leathery leaves. The leaf surface is pleasantly deep dark green with a fine, matte texture and a clearly visible, structured central vein. With proper and loving care, this Hoya will reward you in the future with breathtaking, porcelain-like star-shaped flower clusters in creamy white or soft pastel tones, emitting a refined, sweet fragrance. Currently, it is a small, stable, and well-rooted 10-15 cm young plant growing in a generously sized 12 cm pot. It is an air-purifying and incredibly long-lasting vine / trailing plant that will add minimalist, modern, and very tasteful tropical elegance to any interior. It is a perfect, intellectual, and prestigious gift for true botanical rarity connoisseurs and those who appreciate clean, nature-formed geometric shapes!
CARE INSTRUCTIONS:
-
☀️ Light: Bright but MANDATORILY diffused light. For this rare Hoya to maintain its compact, dark green form and boldly bloom in the future, it needs a large amount of light (it will especially enjoy gentle morning or late evening sun rays). However, strictly protect it from direct, scorching midday sun rays, which will instantly burn and irreversibly dry out its elegant leaves. An east or west-facing windowsill is a perfect choice.
-
💧 Watering: Rare, moderate, and very careful! Since its leaves are thick and leathery, the plant perfectly stores moisture reserves in them. Allow the top layer and the middle layer of the soil (at least the first third of the pot) to dry out completely between watering sessions! Since the plant is in a relatively spacious 12 cm pot, it is important not to overwater it. The plant absolutely cannot tolerate root soaking in standing water in the saucer, which will quickly cause sensitive root rot.
-
🌡️ Temperature/Humidity: A warmth-loving tropical resident (ideally +18°C to +25°C), which, thanks to its thick leaves, can relatively well adapt to normal, dry indoor air. Of course, it will appreciate increased humidity (above 50-60%), which helps new shoots develop faster and denser. In winter, strictly protect it from cold drafts and icy windowsills!
-
🐾 Pets: Friendly. This exotic and beautiful wax flower is completely non-toxic and absolutely safe in your home with curious cats and dogs.
🏠 MOST SUITABLE LOCATION:
-
A bright and warm windowsill or shelf in morning/evening sun (ideal environment and convenient placement due to its compact young plant size).
-
Modern living rooms, home offices, or plant cabinets, where this plant’s dark, structured leaves and vining nature will serve as a refined interior design element.
SPECIFICATIONS:
-
Height: 10-15 cm (compact baby seedling / young plant)
-
Pot diameter: 12 cm (stable and generous volume for this plant size)
⚠️ Note and reality check about wax flowers: Plants are living organisms, so each specimen and the exact twist of its shoots may vary slightly. It is extremely important to keep in mind that you are receiving a young plant! Small seedlings must be handled more gently and patiently than large, mature plants. An important nature secret: Hoyas naturally grow as vines and sometimes produce long, "bare" shoots (strings) that initially have no leaves. Never cut these off! This is a completely normal natural process – when the long string feels support or sufficient light, new, firm leaves will gradually grow on it. If the plant blooms in the future, after flowering never cut off old flower stalks, because the Hoya will bloom next season from those same stems! When repotting this plant in the future, ALWAYS use a very airy, porous, and loose epiphyte/orchid soil mix (generously mixed with perlite, coconut chips, and coarse orchid bark) so the roots receive maximum oxygen.
