Hoya or Wax Flower 'Verticillata Lampung' (Hoya verticillata 'Lampung')
This extremely stunning, elegant, and botanically fascinating Hoya or Wax Flower 'Verticillata Lampung' is a true tropical gem, arriving straight from the legendary Lampung region on the island of Sumatra (Indonesia)! This variety stands out with its firm, fleshy, and thick leaves, which have a beautiful elongated shape and a distinctive smooth texture. Their lush green surface is adorned with charming silvery drops and spots (splash pattern), creating a shimmering natural texture in the light. Properly cared for, it will reward you in the future with stunning, waxy flower clusters that emit a pleasant, sweet fragrance in the evenings. As a true wax flower, it is a patient, air-purifying, and long-lasting vine that will eventually form a cascading cascade or happily climb up a provided support. Currently, it is a small seedling (young plant), but it is exceptionally space-saving and completely safe as a houseplant, adding an airy, exotic, and very modern accent to any interior. It is an ideal, joy-inducing gift for rarity hunters and anyone who tends to forget regular watering of their plants!
CARE INSTRUCTIONS:
-
☀️ Light: Bright but diffused light. Here lies the main secret of this plant’s beauty: for the hoya to maintain the vivid density of the silver splashes on its leaves and to be able to bloom in the future, it vitally needs a large amount of light (it will especially enjoy morning or late evening sun rays). However, strictly protect it from direct, scorching midday sun rays, which will quickly bleach and burn its beautiful leaves. An east or west-facing windowsill is an excellent choice.
-
💧 Watering: Rare and very careful! As an epiphyte, its tough and thick leaves work perfectly as water reservoirs. Allow the top layer of soil and the middle layer between watering sessions to dry out thoroughly! It absolutely cannot tolerate root soaking in standing water in the saucer, which will quickly cause root rot. The best indicator: if the leaves are very firm and stiff, the plant does not need watering; if they become a bit more flexible – it’s time to drink.
-
🌡️ Temperature/Humidity: Thrives well at standard room temperature and, thanks to its thick leaves, adapts relatively well to normal indoor light. However, being a resident of the Sumatran jungle, it will be extremely happy with increased air humidity, which promotes much faster and fuller development of new leaves. In winter, strictly protect it from cold drafts!
-
🐾 Pets: Friendly. This stunning wax flower is completely non-toxic and absolutely safe in your home with curious cats and dogs.
🏠 MOST SUITABLE LOCATION:
-
A bright and warm windowsill with morning or evening sun (ideal environment for maintaining the variegated foliage and convenient placement due to its compact size).
-
A high shelf, hanging pot, or a place with a compact support (arch/ladder), allowing the vine to freely stretch and twist its tendrils.
SPECIFICATIONS:
-
Height: 10-15 cm (length of tendrils at receipt / young plant)
-
Pot diameter: 10.5 cm
⚠️ Note and reality check about wax flowers: Plants are living organisms, so each specimen and the placement of its silvery spots may vary slightly. It is extremely important to keep in mind that you are receiving a young plant! Small seedlings must be handled more gently and patiently than mature plants. It is important to know nature’s secrets: hoyas naturally grow as vines and regularly produce long, "bare" shoots (tendrils) that initially have no leaves. Never cut these off! This is a completely normal natural process – when the long tendril finds support or senses enough light, new silvery leaves will gradually start to form on it. If the plant blooms in the future, after flowering never cut off old flower stalks, because the hoya will bloom next season from those very same stems! When repotting this plant, ALWAYS use a very airy aroid or epiphyte soil mix (generously mixed with orchid bark, coconut chips, and perlite) so its roots can breathe freely.
