Royal variegated holly (Ilex aquifolium 'Variegata')

Get ready to bring absolute botanical classic into your home or cool conservatory, Christmas coziness and the most elegant and traditional festive accent in the plant world - the stunning Variegated holly (Ilex aquifolium / often associated with festive decorations, winter wreaths and Hollywood Christmas movies)! This exclusive natural masterpiece is a real find for lovers of evergreens and bold contrasts. The plant’s greatest pride, magnet and unmistakable signature is its breathtaking foliage: distinctly rigid, leathery, wavy leaves with sharp, with spiky tips, shine dark emerald green, which is picturesquely and abundantly framed by bright cream-white and golden-yellow edges. This sharp, while the formal contrast instantly adds aristocratic charm to the room. It has grown beautifully by now, strong and very promising 10-15 cm a large mini-plant in an exceptionally compact 6 cm pot. It is the most prestigious, the most tasteful and traditional a gift a blessing for the home, for owners of cool windowsills and anyone who is looking for something visually striking, a classic natural wonder, which can eventually also be planted outdoors in the garden!

CARE INSTRUCTIONS:

  • ☀️ Light: Bright, but indirect light. Here lies the secret behind this plant’s gorgeous, variegated leaves: unlike fully green hollies, 'Variegata' varieties need a little more light, so the white edges retain their brightness and don’t turn green. However, indoors, protect it from direct, hot radiators nearby and midday sun shining through glass.

  • 💧 Watering: Regular and very careful! The holly likes consistently moist soil, but it doesn’t tolerate wet “feet.” Water the plant when the very top layer of soil has dried out. Since this seedling is in an extremely small (6 cm) pot, the soil will dry out very quickly - you’ll need to keep a close eye on it, so the plant doesn't dry out, because dried-out leaves will fall off in no time. Always pour away excess water from the saucer.

  • 🌡️ Temperature/Humidity: A lover of cool temperatures and fresh air! This is not a classic, heat-loving houseplant. It absolutely cannot tolerate hot, stuffy air and dry air from heating radiators. Indoors, it will feel best in cooler, in well-ventilated rooms (+5°C to +15°C in winter), by misting it regularly.

  • 🐾 Keep away from pets and children: English holly is toxic and physically dangerous. Its leaves (and red berries, if any develop in the future) contain toxic substances, which causes vomiting and digestive upset in dogs, cats and people. In addition, the sharp leaf spines can easily injure curious noses.

🏠 BEST LOCATION:

  • Cool conservatories, enclosed balconies, bright entryways, and stairwells, where this evergreen accent will get the cool temperatures and fresh air it needs.

  • Classic, "cottagecore," traditional, or festive-style interiors, where aristocratic natural lines create an atmosphere of complete visual coziness.

SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Height: 10-15 cm (compact, an upright and notably dense mini-plant with tough, with spiny leaves)

  • Pot diameter: 6 cm

⚠️ A note and a dose of reality about English holly: Plants are living organisms, and, when purchasing this plant, There is one extremely important botanical fact you need to know: English holly is actually an outdoor shrub/tree, not a long-term houseplant! You can use it as festive indoor decor for a few weeks or months, but in the long term, an ordinary, in a warm room, it will start shedding leaves and withering. The best scenario for this plant is to move it outdoors in spring, once the frost has passed, transplant it outdoors into the garden or into a large, in a spacious pot on the patio/balcony, where it can grow into a magnificent, long-lasting garden showpiece (it easily withstands Latvian winters, if it is properly established and protected from early spring sunburn). When transplanting, use nutrient-rich, well-draining soil.

🌡️ COLD TIME! If the outside temperature is below +5°C, be sure to add a heat pack to the order so that plants and predatory mites do not freeze on the way.

❄️ In cold weather, we recommend choosing Smartpost parcel lockers, as they provide indoor delivery, reducing the impact of low temperatures on the shipment.

⚠️ Important about the heating element! ‼️ 1 heating element per 1 order – it is not necessary to put one for each plant. ‼️ Provides heat for up to 72 hours. Without a heating element – we do not take responsibility for frozen plants and predatory mites.

📦 Pick it up promptly! When the package has been delivered, collect it the same day. Do not leave the package in the parcel locker overnight! Cold and heat can damage the plants and predatory mites.
