Royal Goldheart Ivy (Hedera helix 'Goldheart')
Get ready to bring sparkling warmth, aristocratic elegance, and the charm of the hardiest climber in the world of houseplants into your home, on a windowsill, or in a hanging pot – the stunning 'Goldheart' Ivy (Hedera helix 'Goldheart' / 'Oro di Bogliasco')! This legendary variegated ivy, highly prized among gardeners, is a true masterpiece of nature that captivates at first sight. The plant’s greatest pride, magnet, and unmistakable signature is its breathtaking foliage: on flexible, strong shoots grow smooth, firm, triangular or three-lobed leaves whose very centers shimmer with a striking, sunny-yellow or cream-colored "golden heart" surrounded generously by a rich emerald-green tone. This contrasting "golden stroke" creates stunning visual depth and a play of light in every leaf. 'Goldheart' is an exceptionally versatile plant – it can beautifully twine around supports and trellises, creating a living green wall, or elegantly cascade over the edges of a pot. It is currently a nicely established, strong, notably dense, and stable 10-15 cm plant in an ideally sized 9 cm pot. It is the warmest, most tasteful, and most reliable gift for a housewarming, for beginners, or for anyone looking for an evergreen, sunny accent in their home!
CARE INSTRUCTIONS:
-
☀️ Light: Bright to moderate, but ABSOLUTELY indirect light. This is the main secret behind the plant’s yellow "golden heart": 'Goldheart' ivy needs plenty of filtered light to keep the center of its leaves bright yellow and prevent the variegation from fading (it will particularly enjoy gentle morning sun). However, strictly protect it from direct, scorching midday sunlight, which can burn its beautiful leaves in an instant. An east-, west-, or bright north-facing windowsill will be the perfect choice.
-
💧 Watering: Regular, moderate, and careful. Ivies like consistent, light moisture, but they do not tolerate living in soggy soil. Water the plant moderately as soon as the top layer of soil (the upper 1 cm of the pot) has dried between waterings. The soil in the pot should be pleasantly moist, like a wrung-out sponge. Since the plant is in a 9 cm pot, it will dry out moderately quickly, so strictly avoid allowing the roots to sit in standing water in the saucer, as this can quickly cause root rot. Reduce watering in winter.
-
🌡️ Temperature/Humidity: It feels excellent and comfortable in moderate room temperatures or cooler rooms (+15°C to +22°C). Ivies do not like excessive heat. They appreciate moderate to high humidity and will be extremely grateful for regular misting of the leaves with lukewarm water or for having the leaves wiped clean. In winter, strictly protect it from the hot, dry air of heating radiators and icy drafts!
-
🐾 Pets: Keep away from pets. Ivies contain triterpene saponins that are toxic to cats and dogs, causing irritation and digestive problems if the leaves are chewed. Place this magnificent climber somewhere inaccessible to four-legged friends, such as in hanging pots or on high shelves.
🏠 BEST ROOM:
-
Bright shelves, bookcases, windowsills, and hanging pots, where these golden shoots can freely hang or climb, creating an airy green cascade.
-
Cooler living rooms, home offices, or entryways, where the ivy’s moderate environment allows it to thrive in all its glory.
SPECIFICATIONS:
-
Height: 10-15 cm (a nicely established, strong, notably dense, bushy, and already visually perfectly formed plant)
-
Pot diameter: 9 cm (a compact, stable size that supports excellent and healthy root-system development)
⚠️ Note and a dose of reality about ivies: Plants are living organisms, so every specimen, as well as the exact size of its sunny-yellow area and the length of its shoots, is a completely unique masterpiece of nature – no two ivies in the world are identical. Since this is already a nicely matured plant in a convenient 9 cm pot, it is hardy and will not require immediate repotting for some time. When you repot it in the future, ABSOLUTELY use a light, peat-based, airy, and well-draining soil mix with added perlite to provide the roots with oxygen and prevent water from accumulating.
