Royal Jewel Orchid (Macodes petola)

Get ready to bring absolute botanical magic into your home, the mystique of Southeast Asian tropical rainforests, and one of the most unique and coveted rarities in the world of houseplants: the stunning Jewel Orchid (Macodes petola)! This masterpiece of nature is a true, exclusive find for miniature plant collectors and lovers of unusual textures. The plant’s greatest pride, its magnetic, unmistakable calling card turns the orchid world upside down – this plant is grown NOT for its flowers, but for its breathtaking leaves! Its velvety, deep emerald-green leaves are threaded with dazzlingly bright, neon-green and golden veining, which looks remarkably like lightning bolts or an illuminated electrical grid. In the light, these fine veins literally shimmer and sparkle like cut gemstones, creating the illusion that the plant is plugged into electricity! Right now, it is perfectly formed, an exceptionally exclusive and exquisite 10-15 cm natural treasure, just 8 cm in size, in a tiny pot. It is the most prestigious, stylish and magical gift for "urban jungle" aesthetes, terrarium designers, and anyone looking for a visually striking, exceptionally rare and photogenic natural wonder!

CARE INSTRUCTIONS:

  • ☀️ Light: Moderate to low, but MUST be indirect light. Here lies the secret to this plant’s jewel-like shimmer: in nature, this orchid grows on the forest floor, in deep shade beneath the trees. It absolutely cannot tolerate direct sunlight or even overly bright light! In bright light, its velvety leaves will quickly fade, lose their lightning-like contrast, and burn. A north- or east-facing windowsill or a spot on a shadier shelf will be absolutely ideal.

  • 💧 Watering: Generous and consistent! Unlike ordinary orchids, this one must not dry out. The potting soil must be evenly and slightly moist at all times! If you let the soil dry out, the plant’s leaves will curl up and wither. However, be careful – moist does not mean wet! It absolutely cannot tolerate its roots sitting in stagnant water in the tray.

  • 🌡️ Temperature/Humidity: A lover of warmth and EXTREMELY high humidity! It thrives in room temperatures (+18°C to +26°C). But dry indoor air is this plant’s greatest enemy. It absolutely hates hot, dry air from heating radiators and drafts! To keep its leaf edges from drying out, it critically needs high humidity (a terrarium environment, glass dome, or humidifier).

  • 🐾 Pets: Pet-friendly / Non-toxic. This exclusive natural gem is completely non-toxic and absolutely safe to have in your home with curious cats and dogs.

🏠 IDEAL ROOM:

  • Glass terrariums, bottle gardens, decorative glass cloches, and plant display cabinets, where this moisture-loving treasure will feel at home in its natural tropical ecosystem and won't dry out.

  • "Urban jungle" collections and mystical-style interiors, where this striking accent will serve as a sophisticated conversation piece and object of admiration.

SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Height: 10-15 cm (a miniature, low-growing, creeping plant)

  • Pot diameter: 8 cm

⚠️ A note and a reality check about jewel orchids: Plants are living organisms, and, when growing this rare species, it is absolutely crucial to know two essential botanical facts, so you don't kill it! First, this is a terrestrial orchid, not an epiphyte (like the phalaenopsis orchids sold in shops). This means it MUST NOT be planted in large, coarse chunks of orchid bark! When you repot it in the future, be SURE to use a fine, loose, moisture-retentive, yet breathable substrate (pure moss is ideal, or a mix of peat, sphagnum moss, and perlite). Second - the reality of flowering. When the plant decides to bloom, it will send up a long stalk with very tiny, unimpressive white flowers. Most professional collectors ruthlessly cut off these flower stalks right away, because flowering takes an enormous amount of energy from the plant, often causing its beautiful, velvety leaves to weaken and the plant to decline. This is one of those rare cases where we grow an orchid for its leaves, sacrificing the flowers!

🌡️ COLD TIME! If the outside temperature is below +5°C, be sure to add a heat pack to the order so that plants and predatory mites do not freeze on the way.

❄️ In cold weather, we recommend choosing Smartpost parcel lockers, as they provide indoor delivery, reducing the impact of low temperatures on the shipment.

⚠️ Important about the heating element! ‼️ 1 heating element per 1 order – it is not necessary to put one for each plant. ‼️ Provides heat for up to 72 hours. Without a heating element – we do not take responsibility for frozen plants and predatory mites.

📦 Pick it up promptly! When the package has been delivered, collect it the same day. Do not leave the package in the parcel locker overnight! Cold and heat can damage the plants and predatory mites.
