Royal Smooth Ledebouria (Ledebouria concolor)

Get ready to bring an unparalleled African natural charm, elegant lines, and the most enchanting miniature architecture in the world of houseplants into your home, office, or bulb and succulent collection—the stunning Smooth Ledebouria (Ledebouria concolor)! This exclusive South African natural gem, highly prized among collectors of rare bulbous succulents, is a true masterpiece of living nature. Unlike its famous sister, the spotted-leaf ledebouria (Ledebouria socialis), Ledebouria concolor captivates with a pure, flawless, glossy elegance. The plant’s greatest pride, focal point, and unique signature feature is its breathtaking foliage and stem base: from the upper bulb (caudex), fleshy, upright, smooth leaves arranged in a lush rosette emerge in a rich, glossy emerald-green shade without markings, creating a striking three-dimensional form. During the spring and summer months, the plant generously delights with delicate, airy flower stalks bearing countless tiny, bell-shaped flowers in greenish-white and violet shades at their tips (as shown in the sample image). It is currently a beautifully established, strong, exceptionally dense, and highly promising 10–15 cm plant in a perfectly sized 8.5 cm pot. This is the most prestigious, tasteful, and unique gift for housewarmings, desks, rare-plant enthusiasts, and anyone seeking the finest level of delicate natural detail in their home!

CARE INSTRUCTIONS:

  • ☀️ Light: Bright, abundant, but ABSOLUTELY indirect light (or gentle morning/evening sun). This is the key secret to this plant’s lush green leaves and generous flowering: Ledebouria concolor requires plenty of filtered light for its leaves to remain thick and glossy and for flower stalks to develop. Protect it strictly from direct, scorching midday sunlight, which can quickly burn its glossy leaves. It will do best on an east- or west-facing windowsill and in a spot close to a window.

  • 💧 Watering: Moderate, infrequent, and very careful—this plant is a bulbous succulent! Since its thick bulb and fleshy leaves store water reserves, the plant does not tolerate constantly wet conditions. Water the plant only when the top layer of soil (the upper 1–2 cm of the pot) has completely dried out between waterings. As the plant is in an 8.5 cm pot, it will dry out moderately quickly, but it strictly cannot tolerate its roots and bulb base sitting in stagnant water in the saucer, which can rapidly cause rot. In winter (during dormancy), reduce watering considerably (once every 3–4 weeks).

  • 🌡️ Temperature/Humidity: It feels excellent and comfortable in warmth and dry conditions (+18°C to +25°C). This plant tolerates dry indoor air completely without problems, including the heat of the heating season, and does not require misting or additional humidity (humidification may even harm the bulb!). In winter, protect it from temperatures below +10°C and icy drafts.

  • 🐾 Keep away from pets: Like other plants in the lily family and related bulbous plants, ledebourias contain substances that may cause digestive tract irritation in cats and dogs if the leaves are chewed. Place this beautiful bulbous succulent somewhere inaccessible to four-legged friends.

🏠 IDEAL LOCATION:

  • Bright windowsills, desks, shelves, and bedside tables, where this smooth, green rosette silhouette will receive the most filtered sunlight and serve as the main design accent.

  • Modern, Scandinavian, or minimalist interiors, where clean lines and glossy natural textures create the perfect visual balance.

SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Height: 10–15 cm

  • Pot diameter: 8.5 cm

⚠️ Note and a dose of reality about ledebourias: Plants are living organisms, so every specimen—and its exact bulb count, leaf curvature, and density—is a completely unique masterpiece of nature; no two plants in the world are identical. Flowering note: The first sample image shows an example of the spectacular flowering of a mature plant—the plant produces flowers generously during the spring/summer season once it has reached maturity and received abundant light. As this is a strong plant in a movable 8.5 cm pot, it is exceptionally resilient and will not require repotting for some time (ledebourias prefer to become densely rooted in their pots). When you eventually repot it, be SURE to use a special mineral-based, sandy, and highly porous cactus/succulent or houseplant soil mix (with a generous addition of perlite and sand) to ensure that excess water drains through the pot immediately.

📦 Pick it up promptly! When the package has been delivered, collect it the same day. Do not leave the package in the parcel locker overnight! Cold and heat can damage the plants and predatory mites.
