Opuntia microdasys 3

Bunny Ears Cactus (Opuntia microdasys)

Get ready to bring the heat of the Mexican desert, an unforgettable design silhouette, and the houseplant world’s most deceptive “cuteness” into your home or office with the stunning Bunny Ears Cactus (Opuntia microdasys, commonly known as the Mickey Mouse cactus or simply bunny ears)! This exclusive masterpiece of desert nature is one of the world’s most popular and photogenic cacti. The plant’s greatest pride, its magnet, and its unmistakable signature is its breathtaking structure: it grows as flat, rounded green pads (which really do look like rabbit or mouse ears), evenly dotted with attractive yellowish (sometimes white or reddish) spots that look like soft fluff. This marvel of desert architecture instantly brings “desert boho” chic to a room. It is currently a handsome, vigorous, notably dense, and very promising 20 cm plant in a compact 10.5 cm pot. It is the most prestigious, tasteful, and stylish gift for owners of sunny windowsills, fans of desert aesthetics, and anyone looking for a visually striking yet completely self-sufficient natural wonder!

CARE INSTRUCTIONS:

• ☀️ Light: Bright, generous, and as sunny as possible! This is the secret to the plant’s perfect “bunny ear” shape: the cactus needs plenty of direct light (a south- or west-facing windowsill). Without enough light, new pads will become leggy, thin, long, and unattractive, permanently ruining the plant’s silhouette.

• 💧 Watering: Extremely infrequent, minimal, and very careful! Water thoroughly, but ONLY when the soil in the pot is completely, 100% dry all the way to the bottom! It will tolerate a very long drought, but absolutely cannot tolerate its roots sitting in standing water in the saucer. Reduce watering drastically or stop almost entirely during the winter months.

• 🌡️ Temperature/Humidity: It thrives in summer heat and warmth. This plant handles dry indoor air with no problem at all, including during the heating season, and does not need any misting. In winter, it will appreciate a cooler rest period (around +10°C to +15°C).

• 🐾 Keep away from pets and children: Although the plant itself is not botanically toxic, it is extremely dangerous on contact. Place this cactus completely out of reach of both children and animals!

🏠 BEST ROOM:

• Sunny windowsills, bright desks, and shelves close to a window, where this striking silhouette will get the most solar energy.

• Modern, desert boho, Southwestern, or minimalist interiors, where clean, natural geometric lines create visual order.

SPECIFICATIONS:

• Height: 20 cm

⚠️ A note and a dose of reality about prickly pears: Plants are living things, but this particular natural wonder comes with a warning! Important botanical fact: Those pretty, fluffy-looking bumps that seem so soft and inviting to touch are actually glochids—thousands of microscopic, brittle, barbed bristles. NEVER, absolutely never touch this cactus with bare hands! Even the lightest touch can leave hundreds of invisible bristles in your skin, which are extremely difficult and painful to remove (if you do touch it, the best way to remove them is with adhesive tape or tweezers). When you repot it in the future, use thick gloves and folded newspaper to handle the plant, and be SURE to plant it in a special, sandy, highly porous cactus potting mix rich in grit and perlite.
