Orchid 'Slipper' or Paphiopedilum (Paphiopedilum)

This extremely exotic, aristocratic, and botanically unique Orchid 'Slipper' or Paphiopedilum is a true gem for orchid collectors! Unlike popular Phalaenopsis orchids that grow on tree branches in nature, this orchid is mainly a ground-dwelling (terrestrial) plant that grows in the shady understory of tropical forests or in rock crevices. CARE INSTRUCTIONS:

• ☀️ Light: Bright but diffused light or partial shade. Since this orchid grows in the forest understory in nature, it requires less light than other orchids. Strictly protect it from direct, scorching sunlight, which will instantly burn its leaves and turn them yellow. An east or north-facing windowsill is an absolutely excellent choice.

• 💧 Watering: Regular and very attentive. The most important rule: unlike other orchids, Paphiopedilum does not have nutrient storage organs (pseudobulbs), so its roots and soil must never completely dry out! Keep the substrate evenly lightly moist, but be careful – it also cannot tolerate root soaking in standing water in the saucer. Use only soft, filtered, settled, or rainwater at room temperature for watering.

• 🌡️ Temperature/Humidity: Thrives at standard room temperature. This orchid literally loves high air humidity, but never spray the plant's leaves or allow water to enter the center of the leaf rosette, as this will quickly cause rot and plant death! A humidifier or placing the pot on a pebble/water tray is the best solution.

• 🐾 Pets: Friendly. This elegant orchid is completely non-toxic and absolutely safe in your home with curious cats and dogs.

🏠 MOST SUITABLE ROOM:

• Bright bathroom with a window (an absolutely ideal place due to high humidity and shaded light).

• East-facing windowsill in the bedroom or living room (where the plant receives gentle morning sun).

⚠️ Note and reality check about flowering: Plants are living organisms, so each specimen, its leaf pattern, and flower tone may vary. It is important to know nature's secrets: each Paphiopedilum leaf rosette blooms only once in its lifetime! After flowering, the old flower stalk must be pinched off, and the old leaf rosette will slowly stop growing over several years and eventually die. This is normal and not a cause for panic! During this time, the plant will sprout new shoots (new rosettes) from the base, which will later delight with flowers again. When repotting, it is strictly forbidden to use regular large chunk orchid bark – since this is a ground-dwelling plant, you must use finer fraction orchid soil mixed with perlite, sphagnum moss, and a little peat to help the substrate maintain even moisture.
