Shingle Rhaphidophora 'Korthalsii Marble Aurea' (Rhaphidophora korthalsii 'Marble Aurea')

This extremely rare, exclusive, and highly coveted Rhaphidophora 'Korthalsii Marble Aurea' is a true botanical masterpiece in the world of houseplant collectors! Similar to the famous Monstera dubia, this species is also a "shingle plant" (Shingle Plant) and a true queen of transformations. In its juvenile phase, it grows straight upwards, with its leaves lying completely flat and pressed tightly against the tree support, literally resembling green shingle armor. However, this 'Marble Aurea' variety is a top luxury-class rarity – its firm leaves are luxuriously and unevenly illuminated with bold, marble-like bright yellow (Aurea), cream, and lime green variegation. Only when the plant climbs high enough and reaches maturity will it undergo a dramatic transformation and start producing huge, deeply split leaves. Currently, it is a 20 cm young plant in a 10.5 cm pot, which comes with its climbing board. It is an exceptionally architectural, air-purifying houseplant that will add a bold, modern, and tropical nature accent to any interior. It is an exclusive and unforgettable gift for passionate rarity hunters and those who want to grow something truly unique at home!

CARE INSTRUCTIONS:

  • ☀️ Light: Bright but MANDATORILY diffused light. Here lies the main secret to this plant’s vivid colors: since the yellow and cream parts of the leaves lack chlorophyll, the plant vitally needs a large amount of light (it will especially enjoy morning or late evening sun) to maintain its variegation. However, strictly protect it from direct, scorching midday sun rays, which will sharply burn and irreversibly damage its delicate yellow leaf centers.

  • 💧 Watering: Moderate and thoughtful. Allow the top layer and the middle layer of the soil to dry out thoroughly between waterings! As a tropical liana, it absolutely cannot tolerate root rot caused by standing water in the saucer, which quickly leads to sensitive root decay. The best time to water is when the top third of the pot feels completely dry.

  • 🌡️ Temperature/Humidity: Loves warmth (+18°C to +25°C) and, being a Southeast Asian rainforest native, it will greatly appreciate increased air humidity. High humidity helps its aerial roots cling more tightly and easily to the tree support, which is essential for developing larger leaves. In winter, strictly protect it from cold drafts!

  • 🐾 Pets: Keep away from pets. Like most aroids, rhaphidophora tissues contain calcium oxalate crystals, which are toxic to cats and dogs if chewed. Place the plant out of their reach.

🏠 MOST SUITABLE LOCATION:

  • A bright and warm spot on a shelf or windowsill in morning/evening sun, where the plant’s climbing board has stable rear support (for example, against a wall).

  • Modern interiors, plant displays, or terrariums, where this plant’s unique vertical geometry and vivid 'Aurea' coloration will look exceptionally elegant.

SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Height: 20 cm (plant with climbing board)

  • Pot diameter: 10.5 cm

⚠️ Note and reality check: Plants are living organisms, so each specimen and its unique marble yellow pattern may vary (some leaves may be more variegated, others greener – this is a natural trait of variegated plants). Important to know nature’s secrets: this plant CANNOT grow downward like a trailing plant. If it reaches the end of its current climbing board and has nowhere to climb further, it will start producing long, bare, and weak vines searching for new support. When the plant outgrows the board, simply attach an extension or cut the tip and root it anew. When repotting this plant in the future, use an extremely airy, loose aroid soil mix (richly supplemented with orchid bark, coconut chips, and perlite) so the roots can breathe freely.
