Easter Cactus or Rhipsalidopsis (Rhipsalidopsis / Hatiora gaertneri)

This extremely spectacular and spring-like Easter Cactus is a true jungle dweller that completely shatters the idea of what a cactus should be! Unlike the spiny desert plants, this one is an epiphyte with smooth, flat-segmented stems that elegantly hang down. Its true beauty reveals itself in spring when dozens of bright, star-shaped flowers bloom at the tips of the branches (most often in shades of pink, red, orange, or white). It is a succulent, flowering, and very dynamic houseplant that will add a lively, romantic, and festive natural accent to any interior. It is an absolutely perfect and safe gift for any flowering plant lover, especially during spring and the Easter season!

CARE INSTRUCTIONS:

• ☀️ Light: Bright but diffused light. For the plant to bloom abundantly, it needs plenty of light, but it must be strictly protected from direct, scorching midday sun rays, which can burn or redden its fleshy segments. An east or west-facing windowsill is an ideal choice.

• 💧 Watering: Moderate. Since this is a tropical forest cactus, not a desert cactus, it requires regular moisture. During flowering and active growth, keep the soil lightly moist, allowing only the surface layer to dry slightly. Important: the plant must never sit in standing water in the saucer, as this will cause rapid root rot! After flowering, reduce watering slightly.

• 🌡️ Temperature/Humidity: Thrives at standard room temperature and, being a jungle plant, will appreciate increased air humidity. However, the most important rule for flower production: in winter (from November to January), it requires a cool resting period (around 10–15°C) with very rare and minimal watering. This winter coolness stimulates flower bud formation for spring!

• 🐾 Pets: Pet-friendly. This spectacular spring messenger is non-toxic and completely safe in your home with curious cats and dogs.

🏠 BEST LOCATION:

• Bright windowsill in the living room or bedroom (where it will receive morning or afternoon sun).

• Bright shelf or hanging pot (allowing its segmented branches to hang down elegantly and freely).

• Cool veranda or bright stairwell in winter (an absolutely ideal place for the necessary resting period before flowering).

⚠️ Note: Plants are living organisms, so each specimen may differ slightly from the description. People often confuse the Easter cactus with the Christmas cactus (Schlumbergera). The Easter cactus can be easily recognized by its leaf segments – they have rounded and smooth, not sharp and serrated edges, and its flowers are symmetrical like little stars! Another golden rule: once the plant has formed flower buds, never rotate the pot in relation to the light or move it, otherwise it may drop its buds instantly due to stress!
