Schefflera 'Janine' or Dwarf Umbrella Tree (Schefflera arboricola 'Janine')

This extremely charming and compact Schefflera 'Janine' is truly a unique miniature version of the classic "umbrella tree." It stands out with its unusual foliage – unlike common scheffleras, the 'Janine' variety has deeply divided, slightly crinkled leaves richly decorated with creamy white and yellowish spots, creating an airy, lace-like effect. Thanks to its slow growth and small size, it is a perfect and very refined houseplant for smaller spaces, adding a bright, cheerful, and textured natural accent to any interior. It makes a great and unobtrusive gift both for a colleague’s desk and for any lover of variegated plants!

CARE INSTRUCTIONS:

• ☀️ Light: Bright, diffused light. To maintain the beautiful and rich leaf variegation, the plant needs plenty of light. In too dark a spot, the leaves may lose their white patches and turn uniformly green. However, it must be strictly protected from direct, scorching midday sun rays, which will quickly burn its light leaves.

• 💧 Watering: Moderate and careful. Allow the top layer of soil (about 2-3 cm) to dry out completely between waterings. Important: scheffleras are extremely sensitive to overwatering! If the plant sits in standing water, it will immediately react by rapidly dropping its leaves (they will turn yellow or brown and fall off).

• 🌡️ Temperature/Humidity: Thrives at standard room temperature and tolerates normal indoor air well. However, the plant will appreciate occasional misting, especially during the winter heating season. Protect this little beauty very carefully from cold drafts and sudden temperature changes (these can also cause leaf drop)!

• 🐾 Pets: Not pet-friendly. The plant is toxic to cats and dogs. The calcium oxalate crystals and saponins in its sap cause mouth irritation, drooling, and digestive issues if leaves are chewed.

🏠 BEST LOCATION:

• Bright desk or windowsill (thanks to its compact size, it is an ideal "desk plant" that won’t take up much space).

• Bright bedroom (will bring a cheerful and airy atmosphere to the room).

• Well-lit office (as an aesthetic, unobtrusive, and very decorative addition to the workspace).
