Get ready to bring festive coziness, a burst of vibrant color, and the houseplant world’s most beloved winter-blooming legend into your home or office—the stunning Schlumbergera (Schlumbergera, commonly known as the Christmas cactus)! This natural treasure from Brazil’s tropical forests is a unique succulent that naturally grows as an epiphyte on trees. The plant’s greatest pride, magnet, and unmistakable hallmark is its breathtaking silhouette and bloom: from a lush base, segmented, flat, saw-edged shoot segments in a glossy emerald-green shade spread out, ending in multilayered, exotic butterfly-shaped flowers in vivid pink, red, coral, or pure white tones. Schlumbergera is legendary for its ability to bloom when the rest of nature is dormant, filling the room with indescribable vitality. It is currently a beautifully established, strong, exceptionally dense, lush, and stable 25 cm specimen in a generously sized 12 cm pot. This is the warmest, most tasteful, and most flawless gift for bringing blessings to the home, celebrating the winter holidays, creating family coziness, and anyone seeking the highest level of blooming comfort in their interior!

CARE INSTRUCTIONS:

  • ☀️ Light: Bright, generous, but MUST be indirect light. This is the main secret to this plant’s abundant flowering and lush segments: unlike desert cacti, the forest cactus Schlumbergera does not like basking in the sun. It needs plenty of filtered light to produce a large number of flower buds (it will especially appreciate gentle morning sun). Strictly protect it from direct, scorching midday sunlight, which can cause burns on its segments or turn them purplish-red and stressed. An east- or west-facing windowsill will suit it best.

  • 💧 Watering: Regular, moderate, and careful. Schlumbergera prefers consistent, light moisture in the soil, but it does not tolerate a “swamp effect” or waterlogged roots. Water the plant thoroughly as soon as the top layer of soil (the upper 1–2 cm of the pot) has dried between waterings. Since the specimen is in a stable 12 cm pot, it will retain moisture well, but the plant categorically cannot tolerate its roots soaking in standing water in the saucer, which can quickly cause flower buds and segments to drop, as well as root rot. Important tip: when buds are forming, do not change the watering routine or turn the pot. In winter, reduce watering slightly after flowering.

  • 🌡️ Temperature/Humidity: It thrives in moderate room temperatures (+18°C to +22°C). Schlumbergera greatly appreciates moderate air humidity and will be grateful for regular humidification. The main flowering secret: for buds to form, the plant needs a short dormant period in autumn (September/October), with cooler temperatures (+12°C to +16°C) and shorter daylight hours. In winter, protect it from the dry, hot air of heating radiators and cold drafts!

  • 🐾 Pets: Friendly / Safe. Schlumbergeras are completely non-toxic and absolutely safe to keep in your home with curious cats and dogs.

🏠 BEST ROOM:

  • Bright living rooms, dining rooms, desks, and windowsills, where this lush, flowering cascade silhouette can be enjoyed up close and serve as the main festive accent.

  • Modern, Scandinavian, or classic interiors, where the vivid flower colors and green cascades bring coziness and warmth.

SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Height: 25 cm (a beautifully established, strong, exceptionally dense, lush, and already highly noticeable specimen)

  • Pot diameter: 12 cm (a stable and generously sized pot that supports strong and healthy root-system development)

⚠️ Note and a dose of reality about Schlumbergeras: Plants are living organisms, so each specimen and the exact arrangement of its segmented shoots, flower color, and the opening stage of any buds present at a given moment may vary slightly, creating a unique natural form. Golden rule: while the Schlumbergera is forming and holding buds, try not to move it, repot it, or change its orientation toward the light—as a result of stress, it may drop its delicate buds. Since this is already a nicely established specimen in a 12 cm pot, it is strong and will not require immediate repotting. When you repot it in the future, use a light, peaty, airy, and very well-draining houseplant or forest-cactus soil mix with a generous addition of perlite and bark.
