Dark Scindapsus 'Treubii Dark Form' (Scindapsus treubii 'Dark Form')

This extremely mysterious, elegant, and highly valued houseplant among collectors, Dark Scindapsus 'Treubii Dark Form' (also known as Scindapsus treubii 'Black') is truly an aristocrat of the houseplant world and an icon of "black style"! This species is a real rarity, completely different from the usual green vines. It stands out with thick, smooth, firm, and distinctly glossy leaves that have an elegant, asymmetrical heart shape. Its color is indescribably deep – so dark green that in good light it literally looks black with an elegant dark sapphire or metallic sheen. Like other scindapsus, it is exceptionally resilient, air-purifying, and long-lasting vine that will form a dramatic, cascading cascade over time or happily climb up a moss pole. It is an exceptionally tasteful, minimalist houseplant that will add a distinct luxury-class natural accent to any interior. It is a perfect and completely safe gift for owners of modern spaces, hunters of dark forms, and anyone who sometimes forgets to water their plants!

CARE INSTRUCTIONS:

  • ☀️ Light: Bright but diffused light. Here lies the main secret of this plant’s black shine: to maintain such an intense, pure, and almost black tone, the scindapsus needs a lot of light (it will especially enjoy morning or late evening sun). However, strictly protect it from direct, scorching midday sun rays, which will instantly burn its beautiful dark leaves. It can survive in moderate shade as well, but it will grow much slower there and the leaves will lose their black intensity.

  • 💧 Watering: Moderate and very careful. Since its leaves are thicker and firmer than those of regular scindapsus or pothos, they store water reserves very well. Allow the top layer and the middle layer of the soil to dry out thoroughly between waterings! The plant absolutely cannot tolerate root soaking in standing water in the saucer, which will quickly cause root rot. The best indicator: if the leaves are firm, the plant does not need watering; if they start to soften slightly or curl inward, it’s time to water.

  • 🌡️ Temperature/Humidity: Thrives at standard room temperature (+18°C to +25°C) and, thanks to its hardy nature, adapts easily to normal dry indoor air. Of course, as a tropical resident, it will appreciate increased humidity, which promotes much faster leaf development. In winter, strictly protect it from cold drafts!

  • 🐾 Pets: Keep away from pets. Like other plants in the arum family, this scindapsus contains calcium oxalate crystals, which are toxic to cats and dogs if chewed. Place the plant out of their reach.

🏠 BEST SUITED ROOM:

  • Modern, minimalist living rooms, bedrooms, or home offices where the plant’s dramatic dark texture will serve as an exclusive interior design element.

  • A high shelf, top of a cabinet, or hanging pot, allowing the black cascade of leaves to flow elegantly downward, or a spot with a moss pole for it to climb upward.

SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Height: 15 cm (strong and healthy seedling)

  • Pot diameter: 12 cm

⚠️ Note and dose of reality: Plants are living organisms, so each specimen and the exact darkness tone of its leaves may vary slightly (new leaves tend to emerge lighter green at first and become distinctly dark only over time with enough light). Compared to classic pothos, 'Treubii Dark Form' grows relatively slowly and unhurriedly, so it will keep its neat shape for a very long time and won’t outgrow its designated space. Do not repot it immediately into a too large pot – this plant prefers its root system to have a relatively compact environment. When you repot the plant in the future, ALWAYS use an extremely airy and loose aroid soil mix (generously mixed with orchid bark, coconut chips, and perlite) so its roots can breathe freely and excess moisture drains instantly through the pot.
