Royal silver-blue senecio (Senecio cephalophorus)
Get ready to bring absolute botanical minimalism into your home, on a sunny windowsill or desk, with desert aesthetics and one of the most rewarding succulents in the world of houseplants – the stunning Senecio (Senecio cephalophorus / often also called "mountain fire" among botanists)! This exclusive natural masterpiece is a real find for lovers of unusual textures and geometric shapes. The plant's greatest pride, its magnet and unmistakable signature feature is its breathtaking foliage: the thick, paddle-shaped and exceptionally fleshy leaves grow in a dense rosette and gleam in a striking silvery blue, gray-green, or even slightly violet hue. If the plant gets enough sun, the leaf edges turn a soft pink. What's more, when fully mature, this succulent can surprise you, sending up a long flower stalk with a bright orange, fluffy cloud-like (or little flame-like) flower! It is currently a nicely grown, strong and notably dense 10-15 cm plant in a compact 10.5 cm pot. It is the most prestigious, tasteful and photogenic gift for a housewarming, busy people, and anyone looking for a visually luxurious, yet exceptionally independent and patient natural wonder!
CARE INSTRUCTIONS:
-
☀️ Light: Bright, abundant, and as sunny as possible! Here lies the main secret to this plant's bluish color and compact shape: Senecio needs an exceptionally large amount of direct light (a south- or west-facing windowsill). In insufficient light, it will quickly lose its silvery hue (turning ordinary green) and grow unattractively long and leggy.
-
💧 Watering: Extremely infrequent, minimal, and very careful! This plant is a classic succulent, whose thick leaves are full of water reserves. Water the plant thoroughly, but ONLY when the soil in the pot is completely, 100% dry all the way down to the bottom of the pot! It is best to water it from below (pour water into the saucer for an hour, then pour off any excess). Drastically reduce watering in winter.
-
🌡️ Temperature/Humidity: It thrives comfortably at normal room temperatures (+18°C to +25°C). This plant tolerates dry indoor air without any problems, including the heat of the heating season, and requires no misting at all.
-
🐾 Keep away from pets and children: Senecio plants are toxic. They contain alkaloids that, if parts of the plant are ingested, can cause liver damage, vomiting, and severe digestive problems in dogs and cats.

⚠️ A note and a reality check about senecios: Plants are living organisms, and, when growing this succulent, you need to understand one essential golden rule: this plant likes your forgetfulness much more than your care! The greatest risk is overwatering it. If the leaves start turning yellow, soft, translucent and fall off at the slightest touch, the roots have already started to rot. On the other hand, if the leaves become sunken and wrinkled, the plant is simply thirsty. Also avoid unnecessarily touching the leaves with your fingers, so you don't wipe off their natural protective wax. When you repot it in the future, be SURE to use a special, sandy and highly porous cactus/succulent soil mix (mixed generously with gravel and perlite), to ensure rapid drainage. Ordinary houseplant peat will kill this desert plant in no time!
🌡️ COLD TIME! If the outside temperature is below +5°C, be sure to add a heat pack to the order so that plants and predatory mites do not freeze on the way.
❄️ In cold weather, we recommend choosing Smartpost parcel lockers, as they provide indoor delivery, reducing the impact of low temperatures on the shipment.
⚠️ Important about the heating element! ‼️ 1 heating element per 1 order – it is not necessary to put one for each plant. ‼️ Provides heat for up to 72 hours. Without a heating element – we do not take responsibility for frozen plants and predatory mites.
📦 Pick it up promptly! When the package has been delivered, collect it the same day. Do not leave the package in the parcel locker overnight! Cold and heat can damage the plants and predatory mites.
